... They are quite liberal with entry it seems as a family of 6 [4 kids - approx 6 to 15] were in there, doubt they were all WP's and none were in F.
Qantas will generally allow a family access to their lounges.

Last year for QF29, I was able to use the MEL F lounge with mrs serfty, 14YO mini serfty & 13YO niece; we directed in with a welcoming smile.

I hope they continue to be this generous. I am taking the family (wife and 2 children) to US in Sept, and only I have any status (WP) and would love to get them into the new FLounge. I am only 200SC away from Partner SG, so will hopefully have that by the end of current qualifying period, 31 Jul. That would at least ensure access to the J lounge, and more importantly, access to the J lounge in TBIT for the return leg. But after my gushing statements on the new Mel Flounge, the family is very keen to get in there. Fingers crossed.:)

Hi, Am currently sitting in F lounge in MEL and all I can say is WOW. IT si awesome. There is about 15 of u sin here and about 20 staff, unbelievable. Full waiter service, I could live here, itrivals even the top 5 star hotels for elegance and service.
About to order my lunch meal prior to my BKK flight, look sgreat.
Do nto have time today for th espa but upon arrivla they treated me like I was someone, not just a number.

I cannot wait to get back here on 17/6 when going to AKL on QF25, will arrive 3 hours early to lap it up.

My guest cannot beleive it either, I woudl say QF have definetely got it right here.
I agree, it is very good. The full waiter service meal is top class, and the wine list is quite good (yummy Yerring Station Pinot :)). You can also order proper coffee from the espresso machine at the table, while there is just the normal vending style machine in the lounge proper.

Even if you had time for the spa, I doubt you would get in. It was fully booked when I was there, and only F passengers can book 24 hours in advance. WPs can book as soon as they arrive, but availability is tight I believe. I must book an F upgrade and hope it clears in time to book the spa before arrival at the lounge.

All in all, a very significant improvement over the previous Flounge.

When I have asked for access with my family, I was asked to use the J lounge instead of F lounge at BNE and HKG, but was welcomed to the F lounge at AKL and LHR.

Why didnt Qantas revamp F at the same time as installing skybeds?
They did. The seats got new covers and softer padding, AVOD was installed and the in-seat video player removed, larger IFE screens installed etc.

Not really what I had in mind! ;)

I imagine it would depend on who was on duty on the desk and how full the lounges are. Anyway, even J lounge access is better than none :) .

My major wish is to get access to the TBIT lounge, as we are on the late flight out of LAX, and so a shower etc would be very nice. Has anyone used the new lounge at TBIT yet, which I assume is open now? Does it have showers, open bar etc?

And in BNE, the J lounge was probably better for the family anyway.

Which lounge at TBIT has showers? I was not aware that the temp F lounge on the mezzanine level has any shower facilities.

I thought the new lounges were meant to be open by now, so the temp lounges would not be needed anymore? I was just wondering if the new lounges (if they are open) had showers.

According to the T4 FLounge agent last week, they TBIT lounges are not due to open until 2008.

It had been published that the new lounges (4 in total - OW, *A, ST and a fourth for non-alligned airlines) would open in June 2007, but sounds like they are experiencing considerable delays in construction.

So no showers going to be available:( . Looks like I will need to book another night at the hotel.
