New 'Low Cost' Terminal for Perth

Nothing like the smell of kero in the morning.

Lucky it doesn't rain much in Perth 11sjw.

We get more rain than Melbourne (average), we just get it in less days.

The current set up with Skywest/Virgin is a joke. I've experienced walks of>100m uncovered on some Skywest flights. So it will be an improvement but when I have the choice they can keep it.

+1

Or que for the bus, while takes so long, it's faster to walk the 200m distance to the Alliance planes.

Yes but if you walking to the plane it's the number of rainy days that count isn't it?

On different point - do you notice how the final product on something rarely looks like the artist's impression?

One tiny little problem (excuse the tautology :)) but they have yet to get an airline to commit to moving to Terminal WA.

As I understand it, Skywest are willing but won't go alone. I don't know what DJ's attitude is and presumably neither does WA Airports.

I don't know how the "New Age Carrier" DJ could cope being in a "Low Cost" terminal.

Maybe get JQ to move, but then have the issue of no QC access.

Doesn't Westralia Airports Corp have the power to say take it or leave it to Skywest, Virgin, Tiger et al?

WA Airports say that the facilities at Terminal WA (eg the lack of air-bridges) match what these airlines are prepared to pay. I don't know what else there might be about the terminal that makes it "low cost" to the extent that DJ would have a problem.

WA Airports are also hoping to get the current Terminal 3 vacated so that QF can expand into there, which will keep them going until the domestic and international terminals are combined. Without that, everyone has a headache.

It rains every day in Perth during the winter. Ask the fly in/out guys how much they like the winter walk to their planes! Until the Airport can get the LCCs to move Qantas is stuck in their wee space.

If DJ's were even thinking of moving why would they have invested in "The Lounge" in their current terminal.

It would have been the greatest handball ever "We want to build The Lounge but are being slowed down by WA Airports Corp why they build us a new terminal"

I was of the understanding that that's what they've just finished building?

Yes they just opened the Lounge but now it looks like there ar eplans to move them to a new terminal, seems a waste to build a lounge then move terminals.

Ahh I see. You're right, that seems a little odd to me as well!

They will probably get three years out of it so I am not sure its a waste, thats three years of having more incentive to fly DJ than you would with no lounge.

From what I can tell DJ are trying to get rid of the LCC tag in favour of a "new age airline" tag. Whilst they are still happy enough to board via rear doors using stairs, I can't see them being overly happy at having no airbridges at all. Considering they are also trying to attract the business person market (eg Y+, the lounge, FF points etc...) I don't think that they would be overly happy then forcing those business people to use a LCC terminal.

Just my 2c...

DJ is not clearly in either the LCC or the full service camp, so perhaps there will still be some negotiation on where they fit in the new combined terminal.

I would have though, even moving skywest, alliance etc over to TWA would help relieve the problems with the current domestic set up.

I believe the quotes about DJ moving are by a journalist, not by the airport or DJ themselves, its possible that they may remain in the old Ansett terminal, if its truely a LCC terminal then it would make sense for Tiger and JQ to move, taking some pressure of the exsiting infrastrucutre. Then again it would appear the DJ and the airport are hardly best mates given the delays in getting the lounge opened.

I think the airport is mainly hoping Tiger/JQ and all the small carriers like Skywest will move and that will free up enough room for QF to expand.

A better idea would be to build an entire new terminal holding everyone including international.
