New Lifemiles site is now active (Feb 2019)

I can confirm the "screen shot" method is still accepted following the roll out of the new website.

I found it took a little longer than normal for them to send an email confirming the reservation. Didn't help that I then missed their phone call to make the fees payment and then spent the next two nights post midnight making phone calls trying to get hold of a bilingual payment person in their call centre, but all was confirmed last night. ZRH-BKK with a 14h 40m layover followed by BKK-MEL, all in business class.

I also found the new website easier to use to make an online redemption, which I'd never previously managed to do for multiple sector flights to/from Australia - it even included a mixed class booking (business and first).

Agree with others - the website makes it harder to find business class availability - a lot more clicking!

I'm not particularly savvy when it comes to searching for seat availability and tend to rely on the United website a lot, but this time around I found Thai availability on the Lifemiles website that didn't show up on United... I've usually found it to be the other way around (with multi-sector).
 
Welcome to AFF and thanks for the data point! Useful as i’m about to request a very similar routing and layover in BKK to get back to MEL.

UA used to be the most convenient searching engine for *A awards but since they don’t show TG, SQ and TP anymore it’s better to use LM for now.

Also, AC (Aeroplan) is pretty good for searching (it often shows some exotic routings) - but I have found recently it does not show NH which it used to - however LM does. Unfortunately NH (and even AC) only seem to release 1 seat in J on routes to/from SYD.

NH was briefly unavailable on UA but it’s back now.
They still release only one seat in J/F unfortunately.
 
Newbie here with LifeMiles. When I log into lifemiles.com it is all in Spanish. Is there any easy way to get English site?

There's a 'flag Esp' button near the top right hand corner which gives a drop down option of English.

this must be one of the worst deals-even on Momondo it's cheaper to book a business class fare to Europe than with the so called 130% bonus miles that this cough airline is offering! stay away from them for sure!

Would love to see some examples where booking revenue J flights to Europe is cheaper than using LM.

Like boomy I’d be interested to see some examples of this. LM return to europe should set you back AUD3800, plus a couple hundred in taxes fees and charges depending on the destination. First class is about AUD4800 ++

You might be able to get second or third tier carriers for that via Momondo, but not the likes of Thai, Asiana and All Nippon.

It’s actually closer to $3,300 AUD in J or $4,500 AUD in F (plus couple of hundred taxes) going by the current 140% sale at the rate on .70

Is that factoring in the additional 10K miles for the one way ex AU? At 1.375c listed in the OMAAT thread I get closer to my figures, give or take. Either way, many folk will be using points+pay to mitigate large numbers of miles. Even at the 1.5c the value is better than OTAs.
 
Don’t recall ever paying more than 115k for F to Europe. Most recent booking done in January. Is that a new tax?

Supposedly surcharges of between 5k and 10k for departures from 'others' to various destinations. To Asia they are 10K but looking at the award chart is 7.5K to Europe in J and 5K in F. The return is the 'standard' (40K from asia, 85 and 115 for J/F)

I’m pretty sure the AU departure “tax” is only applied for flights to Asia. Did you have to pay extra on any of your bookings to Europe or USA?

Edit: Looks like it’s applied for flights in J but not F.
Makes booking F long haul even better value ex-Australia.
