I was getting my hopes up that the flybuys finally had some useful value for myself, but unfortunately it seems that unless etihad does what emirates do (onwards flight to NZ) or allow VA J redemptions then flybuys points are really as hard to use as qantas points for the average punter with high expectations (thoses who want j seat syd/lax)

I currently have 30000 Flybuy pts...I need to get to 40000 Flybuy pts to convert to 16000 Eithad miles (can only convert in multiples of 10000 Flybuy pts)....I will then have enough (13800 Etihad miles) for a return VA flight Syd-Zqn rtn (can retail up to $600+) on VA Y....probably the best value I can squeeze out of my Flybuy pts...the Q is how long will it take to earn another 10000 Flybuy pts?

Did you get coupons? If not do a small shop as might trigger a docket deal like 1000 points for $30/50

I find that if you stop doing your weekly shop at Coles for a couple of weeks, it will trigger a 10,000 flybuys offer for spend $50 a week over 4 weeks deal.

I'm on my third 10,000 point offer as we speak, they keep on coming :)

I've been watching he Woolies/QFF developments and I'm playing catch up on the FB/EY deal. Do you get EY miles in addition to FB points, or is it a case of choosing one over the other?

I have one question in regards to earning SC/Miles.

Is it like QFF where over the short term, they do expire and turn to zilch each membership year; BUT keep building up as lifetime status/miles?

Or: They expire each year, without any lifetime longterm savings/earning?

My understanding is that you earn FBs and can either cash them in at the checkout/travel vouchers or convert them in blocks of 10,000 for 4,000 EY miles.

I don't fully understand the new conditions, however there is a new way of earning status credits by spending money at Coles and I think you get these status credits in addition to flybuys points. Check the website for more details.

You get Etihad Tier Miles at 1 TM/$ (3TM/$ initially). Max 2500 TM per month. This seems to be a direct sweep if you link accounts

I clearly need to stop doing my weekly shop at Coles, because my offer today was spend $170 (in a single shop) for 4 weeks and get 5000 flybuys bonus points....perhaps not! :(

Why is Sydney-AKL higher in mileage required compared to Sydney - ZQN :)

Because SYD-AKL > 1,250 miles.
SYD-ZQN < 1,250 miles.

Oh really didn't know that. Always thought Zqn is further from Sydney......

SYD-AKL is 1,345 miles while SYD-ZQN is 1,206. :)

While not wanting to teach people how to suck eggs, always remember that the standard world map is a Mercator projection which is considerably distorted especially the further you get away from the equator. It represents a curved surface (the earth) in a flat, two dimensional, format; by "stretching" the east west distances (and more so the further you get away from the poles) so that the meridians are parallel whereas in reality they converge to a point at the poles.

Thus, on a Mercator projection, Greenland and Antarctica appear much larger than they actually are.

While all projections have distortions, the relationship between SYD, AKL and ZQN may be better represented in the Winkel tripel projection:

Hving switched my buying to Coles this week, in absence of any WOW Qantas bonus offers, have accumulated 1177 FlyBuys for a $57 spend -2 stacked 500 points offers, 3 points per dollar bonus for Telstra $40 recharge, and 57 for actual spend. So approx 470 Etihad miles. Will get 1500 FlyBuys for next 2 weeks for $50 spends also. I can see how this could work very well if bonuses continue, offsetting the poor conversion rate of 1 : 0.4. The Etihad points expiry is a concern, but I suppose I can warehouse FB points and transfer as needed.

Upgrades seem to be best bet as opposed to flight purchases with pints, from what I can see.
Syd to LHR - about 192,000 points business one-way. Seems steep compared to 125,000 for Velocity.
But upgrading business to first for same is about 96,000.

Is that correct?
