New benefits for platinum one

Re: Qantas Platinum One now includes free 'Partner Platinum' status

I did not infer in my comments that spouses of P1 are stay at home WAGS - what I did indicate was that most of the enhancements are very minimal and QF uses spin in their marketing to FF's that is often gratuitous and patronising. Its great you get Platinum membership for your spouse - with all its benefits. My comments are about the marketing language of QF.

But for some people giving WP to their spouses is a great benefit - and hence the language is not patronising to them. My point is that whether these benefits are valuable or not will be individual, and hence not considered gratuitous by all. If the threads on this forum are anything to go by, many people spend a great deal of time and effort trying to attain WP - being able to gift it to a long suffering spouse is lovely. This announcement made me feel understood by QF. They already upgrade me about once a month, I always sit in the seat that I wish to, and now I can share my QF experience with family who put up with my continual absence.

Re: Qantas Platinum One now includes free 'Partner Platinum' status

What's the big deal? Primary benefit seems to be the fly ahead option, which VA has been offering to gold and platinum members all along.

As does QF, with my most recent 'fly ahead' offered two days ago. I find that, when there are seats available, they are offered (at the kiosk).

There you go...does that not dilute the promoted benefits of P1 even more?

Suffering from what exactly? P1's spouses could be at least SG which means they already had guaranteed lounge access.
This is a nice benefit but I hope to see a few more significant benefits introduced in the near future. So far there is nothing to be excited about.

Think I found a website mistake :p

Being able to nominate my partner for P1 status would mean they'd be able to nominate someone else for P1 wouldn't they? And so on and so forth :p

What they're doing here is making it a published benefit for P1's, while it's more unpublished and intermittent if you will, for lower tiers. It's worked for me before as a Platinum member...

Re: Qantas Platinum One now includes free 'Partner Platinum' status

As you correctly mention, whilst it may sometimes be available it is unpublished, intermittent and not guaranteed. Why would a QAN member strive so hard to achieve the level of P1 (for the guarantee of 'fly ahead') when they could theoretically obtain the same benefit with a status level of gold elsewhere. Again, I just don't see that the effort (and cost) to get there is worth the (small) reward.

Re: Qantas Platinum One now includes free 'Partner Platinum' status

I'm a little miffed that I opted for the partner gold insted of the 50,000 points 10 days ago. I wouldn't have taken that option had I known the news...

Sorted by the P1 team. Also, as my membership year rolled over on Oct 1st they backdated the additional FF points for hitting 5000sc's !!!
I'm having an awesome customer service experience at the moment!!!

Suffering from having a spouse that is away 150 nights per year - not all suffering is related to lounge access.

I understand the situation very well, what I don't understand is how replacing his SG with WP will make him feel any better about you being away.
I mentioned lounge access before because the main benefit of WP over SG is access to premium lounges so I thought it has something to do with that.

Re: Qantas Platinum One now includes free 'Partner Platinum' status

Personally as others have posted, the partner WP is the big winner here. My wife doesn't fly a lot (she is a bronze) but when we travel as a family, this means everyone gets in the F lounge and when OS into the decent lounges.

Personally I'm a happy egg and so is Mrs Reload.

Suffering because they're away for 150 nights or home for 214 nights? ;)

Re: Qantas Platinum One now includes free 'Partner Platinum' status

Some good benefits, most I wont be able to attain as I'm not aiming to re-qualify at this stage :(

But I do look forward to complimentary Qantas Golf membership... I expect this will mean I qualify for the bonus 5000 points for being one of the first to sign up too :D
<snip>/

Sorry, Sam!
I'm a bit late with this post - so someone else may have picked it up already but, if not, here's an extract from the QFF T&Cs:

<Platinum One members can register their interest for the Qantas Golf Club but will not be eligible for the 5,000 bonus Qantas Points if they take up a complimentary Premium membership as part of the Platinum One program.> :(

Re: Qantas Platinum One now includes free 'Partner Platinum' status

After I get my 3600 SC I can push for 5000 to get 100,000 more.

Or I can switch to Virgin. One-way SYD/BNE-PER in J gets you 6,000 points (including bonus) on Qantas... Or 20,000 (10,000 base + 10,000 bonus). And of course reward seats have lower taxes.

75,000 isn't enough for an additional 1400 SC unfortunately.

If that was the only reward for P1, sure... but it isn't. It still holds value.

I read that not long after I posted too, such a shame :(

Might have to wait to see what it costs before deciding if it's worth paying for points or not ;)

Whatever the cost, not worth it for me! :)

The concept of "value" is relative.

1. Is it worth all the effort and cost for the minor benefits?

2. If the answer above is no, would it be worth the significantly lower cost and effort to obtain similar benefits elsewhere?

Either way you look at it, the "value" proposition seems negligible and appears to be more marketing than substance.

Perhaps to you... I've found a great deal of value from it, and others have had mixed experiences, but that's the same of any program.

FWIW I don't see any value in VA's program, they've done nothing for me, especially when I had status. On the other hand, DJ's program was very good to me, as a Gold (then the top tier) I was looked after superbly when things went wrong. Shame they can't be like that these days...

I don't see any details in your profile with regards to what your loyalty lies, which I think is worth being forthcoming about if you're anti-QF ;)

So yes, value is relative.
