Not too long ago that WPs in J (on domestic flights) could check FIVE BAGS!

J=3 + WP=2 TOTAL=5

Well written letter, IMHO...let's hope you get a personalised reply / phone call as opposed to a canned response, and do share QFs resposne with us.

Will do, although I suspect they will either need to get some more stuff in, or there will be some staff with RSI by the end of the week if they start replying to people personally after the changes they have made.

Bump!

It seems the reduction to one piece of luggage for most flyers including QP, Silver and Gold members isn't as popular a topic as the loss of any time access for platinum members.

Have your say if it is a problem for you, it seems Qantas are reading the forums and are paying attention if there is enough interest.

I am a little surprised the piece system has not got more coverage, perhaps its one of those little changes you dont notice until it bites you.

So I've been following all these threads and haven't bothered to put in my two cents cos there's always been someone else that said what I thought (and didn't think +1 would be useful - maybe it could be :p).

I primarily travel Jetstar for my travels so as a QPNB - no change for those flights (probably one of the few niche spots that isn't affected this time:rolleyes:), however, it was always useful knowing that when I did fly Qantas, I would be able to get all those extra perks.

Correct me if I'm wrong please, but I haven't actually seen anywhere that indicates QP and/or PS are LOSING our Priority Baggage status. As far as I know, even though we're relegated to NGCI, the system has a way of establishing priority right? I mean even without Q Bag Tags and all the extra fun we have to tag onto our bags, I remember reading that there would just be an extra priority tag to put on our bag/s.

I have sent an email off to Qantas asking about this and a few of the points on AFF, but haven't gotten an email yet (seeing as I just sent it today).

In fact, unlike the Priority Check-in Section on the Qantas Club benefits page, the Priority Baggage Handling Section has no footnote indicating a change or loss of priority handling from December, February or end of June (the key dates of changes and travel bookings etc.) or any other time. In addition to this, the page which lists all changes being made (sourced from the email sent out to everybody - in Australia anyway), makes no mention of changes in baggage handling, just check-in and the piece system.

Bottom line is - not happy about loss of priority check-in :rolleyes:, would have preferred the option of NGCI or a priority line and for me, the closest airport is Hobart - not on the schedule for NGCI roll-out at all; only Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Perth will actually be enabled by the time our priority check-in has been lost :(

Oh and to keep this thread on topic.. How many people have bags that can comfortably fit 32kg :shock:, maybe it's time for me to upgrade to stay within my 'piece' limit, but wait that costs me more money sigh!

Sorry to hijack this thread somewhat.. but if I'm going to vent, it's all one big interlinked mess :)

The piece system is pretty much stupid to introduce. Clearly more efficient. But there are times that it is better to have more than one piece that are lighter rather than 1 heavy piece of luggage. Beisdes those people transporting bikes, when I travelled with younger children we might ahve 5 or 6 checkin items. Just because the kids have smaller bags that they can manage better.

As for the 64 kgs for a platinum traveller that is just plain crazy. Who is going to ever use 64kgs (except for US shopping trips). Basically I'm aiming to get lighter and 2x32kg bags doesn't work. But I might see myslef wanting 1x15kg and 2x8kg checked bags. so a piece system just doesn't work.

Having said all that I don't see myself going anywhere near the luggage limit. So I don't see this a a major issue.

I wonder if with the changes it will preclude the pooling of the weight aspects when travelling together with someone else. Currently if I travel with my wife in Y overseas we get 56kg all up (23kg each for Y plus 10kg extra for my QP membership). With the forthcoming changes that drops to 55kg with two pieces maximum, but will they try to charge excess baggage if I have 30kg in one bag and 25kg in the other?

Certainly doesn't appear to be anything in the information provided so far that clarifies this unless I've missed something. As you might have guessed it's fair to say that every last kg gets used when I travel with my wife! :p

Its called the frequent flyer enhancement department in Qantas's case.

Its called Double Talk (an Orwellian Phrase meaning saying one thing but meaning another) Very popular in the times of the iron curtain.

I agree this whole issue about enhancements or Broadening of the Frequent Flyer program benefits is basically and especially for QFF (Platinum) the opposite.

Still having difficulty using all the acronyms and word shortcuts. (still Learning)

Well isn't boardening the same effect as flatening. No doubt in the long run platinums will ahve the same benefits as silver.

What about all those boys weekends to DRW for fishing? How do you fit the following items in the one suitcase:

* fishing rod
* swag
* tackle box
* box of frozen fish from Mr Barra
* duffel bag with clothes

I can hear their reaction now: "this is cough***g b******t!" & I'd have to say I agree with them. :shock: :shock:

New baggage System for QF eff Dec 1

It wasn't that long ago that we had the piece system for domestic, and the old piece system was a lot more generous:

Old System:

All pax got 1 x 32kg bag.
Status and QC got an extra 1 x 32kg.
Platinum got extra 2 x 32kg.

New System:
All pax get 1 x 23kg.
Status get 1 x 32kg.
Platinum get 2 x 32kg.

So under the new system, platinum pax get 1 bag less than they use to. All other status pax just get what the standard use to be!!

I know a lot of status pax only travel for work and don't check much luggage. But I do, especially when traveling for leisure or with SWMBO, and I feel short-changed.

Re excess baggage under the old system of one piece per pax up to 32 kilos, officially it was one piece however pax were always allowed to check two in.

Excess charges applied to the third & subsequent pieces (which could weigh up to 32 kilos) & started out at $11.00 per piece. The cost of the extra piece did increase to $22.00 per piece & this policy was in effect until the 23 kilo limit was introduced approx 18 months ago.

It was a pretty cheap way to move house when even a NB could have 3 pieces @ 32kg each ie 96 kilos and only pay $22.00 in excess for the third piece!

If a NB was to take 96 kilos at present it would cost $730.00 (73 excess kilos x $10.00 per kilo). :shock: :shock:
