My session is today - currently killing time in the SYD J lounge before heading over. I'll be sure to do a (virtual) trip report in the next few days for those that are interested!

Before the session, QF sent out a lanyard with an orange flight sim ID card (not an ASIC, this one seems more of a novelty - will post a pic in the TR). They also mailed a mock itinerary - listing the flight number (7 digits comprising of the experience date and the booking number for the day), departure date, aircraft time, and duration. It'll be interesting to see what merchandise is in the 'gift pack' (besides the certificate and photo).

The TR won't have any images, as photos inside the facility aren't allowed for security reasons. :)

Looking forward to the TR. I hope you enjoy the experience

Indeed - though for privacy reasons, I don't post pictures of myself on AFF... however, for those following me on Twitter, I'll probably put it on there early next week :)

EDIT: Not sure who the other AFFer is, but if you're around and headed to the airport, I'm happy to guest into the J lounge (flying back to Brisbane tonight).

Chris: I'm in the J lounge now, having done the sim session at 8:30 this morning. On the 2pm back to BNE

What a great experience!! I have pics, videos of landings and everything. Clearly mobile phones don't affect sims:p

Ahh awesome! If you'd like to say hi, I'm on my laptop, sitting in front of the TV directly behind reception (the one showing Sky News - I'm wearing a polo shirt). :)

EDIT: I'll probably be leaving in about 10-15 mins for my 2:35pm session - I've never walked from the airport before, and don't want to be late - and relying on Apple Maps is bound to cause extra delays haha!

EDIT2: Just managed to catch TTR on my way out - it was nice meeting you! :)

asg29e and I are there next Friday. It seems they aren't as strict with cameras as the paperwork says. And there is an ID badge mentioned... see my Avi :)

Thanks for the posts. Looking forward to it

Looking forward to it Chris - I bought a session last Thursday, need to call them back tomorrow to schedule a date/time. Can't wait :)

Ouch!! :) I shouldn't tease though, I'll probably crash ;)

Did either of you take a second person with you? If so, was an hour enough time for both of you to have a proper "go" and enjoy yourselves?

Nice for a bit of variety. :) Is it a motion sim? I've flown a sim at the QF jet base, but it was an A320/330 sim (can't remember which) - and stationary. Still fun. :)

I'll write my TR later today (Monday - I have the day off, and was just headed off to bed when I saw there were new replies here)! I asked my partner if she'd like to come along, but she said no - saying that I should enjoy myself as it's "my thing"... I was very happy with that response baha! :D

I found that the amount of time I received in the sim by myself (with the instructor) was fantastic, though if having to do everything twice so that a second person could try everything, my list of goals for the sim definitely wouldn't have been completed. If you're happy to share though, and don't particularly mind what you get to do in the sim, then I imagine having a second person wouldn't be much of an issue.

I wouldn't have flown down if it wasn't full-motion - that was the selling point! Stationary sims are much easier to find (eg. Darling Harbour).

I'm not sure when you flew your sim, but at present, QF don't have A320 sims (only A332s - one each at Sydney and Melbourne), so I imagine it would most likely be that A/C type. :)

Flew the Sim with SO (he is the flyer & I am the traveller who likes flying). He did all the flying-take offs, landing etc .
It was a great experience for both of us, the staff were lovely & very accommodating (especially the instructor in the sim-this is so realistic with full motion-quite scary & the view out the window amazing- SO flew me over Paris & London for a scenic tour!)
If SO is not a "pilot type" there is plenty more - I found the behind the scenes tour of the Qantas Flight training Facility was fascinating. Putting on a life jacket & inflating same was an experience!
If you are thinking of booking this DO IT! while not cheap it is an amazing experience_
