Pretty cool. I thought that this was to be offered to Plat One members as a special present, not offered to all... But anyway, like every airline QF needs to earn $$$ from their points, so good on them.

I would love to go, but alas ... Of course I have some geographic restrictions.

With QF retiring their 747's it obviously opens up spare sim time. A smart move to make money from idle equipment IMHO

Given they bought the 787 sims ahead of time maybe it is using them ;)

Heck yes sign me up!

Although this does seriously detract from the Platinum One "money cant buy experiences" slogan.

When I was a teenager, a mate's dad worked at/ran the flight sim. I got a lot of experience on quiet Sunday afternoons learning how to fly big jets under the Sydney Harbour Bridge!

Great fun (and bloody scary when you balls-up and the warning lights and buzzers all go off). Highly recommended.

Has anyone been able to find this on the QFF site? I've been unsuccessful... In saying that, I'm interested, but would like to find out a little bit more before making a decision :)

Mighty tempting, but I just can't justify 115k QFF points (which I value at about $1500). At that price it would want to include return biz (earning too of course!) flights to SYD. I'd be keen but only at about 50k points.

Oh we'll, back to FSX for me. Just as good :p

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

This is now available and I have just booked through the frequent flyer store. There are only a limited number of spots available so a quick decision is required if you want to burn points on this.

Maybe if you could do a JASA on the SIM it might be worthwhile. ;)

Looks like fun but I prefer the actual flying.

Looks to be a really good package with the following features:

  • 1hr simulator session for 2 persons in the Boeing 747-400 flight simulator
  • A one on one pre-flight briefing with an experienced Qantas instructor
  • An exclusive behind the scenes tour of our Qantas Flight Training facility
  • Total experience duration approx. 2.5hrs
  • Gift Pack including certificate, photo and merchandise
  • The experience will be held at the Qantas Flight Training Facility located on the Qantas Jetbase, situated off Qantas Drive, Mascot, adjacent to Sydney Domestic Airport
  • Sessions only available on selected Fridays between 7 December 2012 and 22 March 2013 (excluding Friday 28 December 2012, 4 January, 25 January and 1 February 2013) Sessions commence at 0830, 1025, 1240 and 1435
  • Once you've redeemed your experience, you'll be contacted within two business days by the Qantas Flight Simulator team. They will book in your experience on your preferred date and time (subject to availability).
  • If a suitable time cannot be confirmed your payment will be refunded.

Thanks for the link! I've booked, but at 69,000 + $354.20 (the minimum points amount - much better value than spending the whole 115k). Now just hoping to get an afternoon session, as it'd be a day trip from BNE. :D

Having just flown a 757-200 sim with British Airways through their public simulator program I would highly recommend doing it! Totally different perspective to being stuck in the back all the time and great fun!

Very true, did any P1s ever actually get invited on a free flight sim ride?

I've heard of a few that did get to go in the sim for free. Apparently they were chosen at random to fly in to SYD because there were no other events in their city that met their QFF profile criteria.

I'm going on the 747 sim in a few weeks (not P1 related), can't wait!

Seems expensive to me. You can get an hour in the 737 sim on melbourne city for $275.

LOL, bit like comparing chalk and cheese, full motion makes all the difference, having done an AN 767 for comparison I would say the 737 "sim" is actually the poorer value.

This was the only perk I wanted as P1... alas no invite.

anyone know a P1 email address i can make a petty request to?
