I purchased some points last night (80+28) and logged in today to see if the points have been deposited . They haven't yet, but I did see a promotion on for 125,000 points at 1.9c or so.

Too bad I maxed out for the year as could have been nice to buy another 80k points and do first class return next year MEL - LHR.

The USDM offer is identical - so you could always buy there and wait for the transfer of points next year

Re: New AA offer Buy Miles

So does this mean 125,000 AA miles cost ~USD2,560 or ~AUD2,918?

That is a lot of money to tie up but Qantas is starting to get on my nerves with all their silly changes.

Yes, this is exactly what it means. It's the closest thing yet to the old days of the USDM 100% promos

When you consider that these points will give you a J return to Europe it looks like good value to me. Or you could travel in real style (F) and slum it on the way back (Y). As you can have a 5-day hold on the awards before you have to hand over the miles you can also make it a risk-free booking (as long as you're travelling within 330ish days).

Top it up with the current SPG promotion for around $600 and there's no need to slum it at all! F one way and J the other...

Does the above include 7.5% tax?. (i've not used AA before)

I included 7% tax and $35 fee. Hmmm.

If I should have included 7.5% tax then the total cost for 125,000 AA miles becomes ~USD2,572 or ~AUD2,932.

A bargain in anyones books, pity Qantas are so stingy in buy points allowance.

(we just used up 240K USDM OZ/EUROPE return for 2 in J for AUD$6K)

Just a quick heads up on this.
I logged onto one of my accounts which has had purchased miles this year and it showed as eligible to purchase the full 80K plus bonus.
Might be worth having a go if you have an account you want to top up :)

:(

Not I. Will only let me buy 24k.

what is people's sense of these buy promos continuing post program merger?

im thinking that they have devalued them in the past and this looks like good value to jump on rather than holding out for the next one...

Wit the merging of USAirways I think it will be sometime before any further devaluation occurs, don't think they will want to rock the boat.

Even if there was a 20% devaluation it's still 50% cheaper than a revenue fare. I can't buy enough miles!

We're sorry! You've reached your annual limit to buy miles. Learn of additional ways to earn miles with the AAdvantage program.

I have 185,000 across 2 accounts and have never used any AA miles, or even looked at it. Is that enough for some at least J flts to Alaska?

It's 62,500 miles from South Pacific to US so I'm afraid you're 2,500 miles short.

Yes that's fine the extra miles were only for a 3rd award. You could even fly in F for 72,500 miles (one way to US).
