I have only flown once on JAL, but managed 35.5k points for the one SYD/NY rtn trip. These points are due to expire at the end of this year, and the closest destintations (requiring the least amount of points) are Tokyo/Osaka which require 40k rtn. So as you can see, I'm nearly there with points.

So without any plans to fly JAL again soon (on a paying ticket), can anyone recommend a way to generate these much needed top up points?

I believe, miles flown on BA can count towards the JAL mileage bank. If this is the case, I have a OW RTW ticket booked for May this year, flying mainly BA (and 2 QA sectors). I'm wondering if its possible to nominate a certain sector's 'milage points' to go onto my JAL mileage card, and the rest of the trip to default to my QFF ? would BA be prepared to do something like this?

Cheers,

Dishy

I do not think you can split the award to two airlines from one ticket. If you give you FF number at the time of booking it will flow through the whole journey.

But I am not sure what will happen if you present your JAL card at the time of check-in just for the last leg (after you have done the other legs without identifying you as ANY frequent flyer). Then after the journey, you can send the ticket and the boarding passes of the other legs to BA.
I am not sure if this will work - don't shoot me if it doesn't.

Hotel stays will get you some points - 500 per each stay.
They also have a promotion - 500 points off if you book online.

Check their website.

thanks arun. yes, its defintely worth 'trying' at check-in on the final sector. But I wont assume it will all work out perfectly. Its not like I want to try and claim twice on both FF programs for the same miles, I just want to nominate certain sectors for my different FF programs.

Thanks for the hotel points tip.

Dishwashhands, you certainly can select individual sectors to go to different FF pograms.

You will be aware that generally one FF program number (in this case, your QFF number) will be in the booking. When you arrive to check-in on that sector where you want another FF program credited, just ensure that you advise the CSA clearly that you want these details overriden for this sector only and they will enter the details. They should show up on your BP and should not change the "initial" program details showing in your booking.

Just check that on your next sector (if you have additional sectors subsequently), that your QFF number is automatically being shown again. If not, give your QFF card to that CSA and they'll enter the details again. It wil only have changed if the previous CSA stuffed up.

I have recently done this for my wife on our recent trip, without any hassles (where certain sectors were QF, others AA and still others for me were on my NW and UA programs). Simply check your BP to ensure the right program is being credited.

Thats great news Lindsay. Thanks very much for confirming this! I was hoping it could be as simple as how you have described it.

So in my case, I NOW just need to work out which sector gives me enough miles to accure the 4.5K extra JAL Mailage bank points I need to bring my JMB total over 40K.

So does anyone know of an online service that helps calculate the miles between airports?

Cheers,
