Hi guys,

Thought I'd use a title that would have an obvious answer for the attention, but the answer for this still eludes me. I had a friend book a flight for our group but noticed on the flight itinerary that my middle name is slightly different from my passport. I don't believe this should be an issue except possibly for the self-checkin.

My middle name is missing a dash, so where my passport says "C-M", the ticket/itinerary simply has "C M" on it. I'm not too worried as I don't believe I'll have an issue but this is a group trip that has been in the making for 10 years now and finally most of our schedules have aligned. I just want to quell any last doubts if possible and ensure there won't be a problem come boarding time!

I'm flying with Qantas if that matters.

Thanks in advance.

I too have a hyphen in my name.

Some tickets have space where the hyphen belongs
Some have one long word
Some have surname first, first name last
Some have my middle name first, followed by the last name, then my first name

In my 1000's of commercial flights..... never, once, had any issue.

The only problem you may face is crediting points to Qantas when names don't match.

No problems at all.
The group that most get caught out by the name thing are people who have just changed their name after getting married, preemptively book the ticket under their new name, but still have their passport in their old name. Small typo's don't cause problems at all.

My middle name can be spelt a variety of ways, and it's subtly different on various different official documents, including on my passport, never been an issue for me.

I agree with trippin.

My real surname (as per passport) is three separate words, but on my QFF account it is a single word. And have never had any problems no matter if surname displays as one or three words as far as immigration, etc goes. BUT, if I get a ticket on another airline that puts my surname in three words, and try to claim points from QF, it will not match up.
