(mods please move if this is in the wrong location, cheers)

The Myanmar Tourist & Business visa online process has been in place for a few years now, and has worked well - but it still meant that the Visa needed to be pre-approved, and documentation presented for check in staff before the last flight in to Myanmar

Myanmar Govt has just announced that for a few select passport holders (including Australians) - they will be able to fly in to Myanmar without holding a Visa before boarding.
I'll try to get more info from my sources here - but this is a preliminary announcement. Goes in to effect 1st October this year.

Price remains the same (USD$50 for 30 days, single entry only). Covers Yangon, Mandalay and Naypyitaw International Airport only.

For those that have travelled here before, they will understand this is a positive improvement which will skip the preparation and application process beforehand.

More to follow when I get additional details

Good for last minute travel needs, but I’d still go for pre approval if possible, depending on what lines are like for Visa on arrival.
Yes, indeed. If they are still charging USD50 then presumably you will need to line up to pay and then line up again at passport control to be processed and show proof of payment. So you are still better off getting the e-visa, unless it's last minute travel.

Agreed on the above. It is of course still quicker on arrival if you have the e-visa in hand - straight to the passport counter, instead of going to the separate VoA window under the current system.

Having said that, its possible that for those few passport holders, there may be no need to do the whole current on arrival application once this kicks in on 1st October.

Will look forward to getting more info towards the time, and posting here with updates.

For the current e-visa (through the official govt site - don't fall for the 'official looking' ones in a Google Search, which charge a hefty premium for doing the same thing - the Express Tourist Visa (USD$56 as opposed to USD$50) - is turned around VERY fast. Can be as quick as 1-2 hours.
