My fellow pax

There are a few airlines where the numbers start in the teens for J then jump a dozen or so for economy. While many of us fly at least yearly, I know of many people for whom an international flight would be a lifetime treat. I think looking at seat numbers, and even ogling the J seats is pretty fair.

There is a vast difference between a typical AFFer and Joe Pleb on their first o/s holiday.

To borrow a phrase “match fit” is very much in the eye of the beholder

I remember QF domestic planes in the 90s maybe that jumped from row 10 or so to 23 where Y started. Never knew why.

Was 767s used for domestic sectors.

Was to try and give some consistency for the international fleet, with a standardised number for the first row of economy across aircraft types. Although even then it wasn’t particularly consistent 🤣

The 767s for a while started at row 23 (first row of business) and economy at 45. But they changed that a bit later in to business starting at row 1. I guess a few folk were a bit surprised to see such a high number for business class?
It was row 11 for Business, 23 for Economy.in the 90's.
1994 business class started at row 24 in the 767-300/200 and economy in row 41 & 45 for the 300/200.

By 1999 business was standard at row 1 in both the domestic and international versions, with economy staring at row 23.
