My very first DONE4 !

I originally had an exCMB planned, but in light of the Tamil Tigers' festivities I've switched it to NRT due to all the uncertainty with CX services to CMB. Last thing I want is to have my whole holiday canned without warning. exNRT actually increased my BIS by about 1000. This itinerary will bring me to approx 85% of EXP (56 610 base miles, according to Great Circle Mapper, x 1.5).

NRT-xSIN-xLHR-DXB-xLHR-FCO//BCN-LHR-LAX//LAS-MIA//FLL-LGA-MSY-xDFW-xJFK-SYD//MEL-AKL-MEL-PER-CBR//MEL-HKG-SIN-NRT

Most of the places above are actually places I want to be in. Am flexible after JFK-SYD though. Any ideas to take up the mileage counter by a notch or 2? :)

The bits from NRT all the way to SYD are part of my Jan/Feb trip, and the SWP sectors will be like, whenever. And finally the rest of the DONE4 will be concluded by a mid year trip to Asia. Hoping to nail EXP on the way back to Australia on a 2nd DONE4 exNRT.

Oh and is it possible for anyone to die of jetlag?
No really long crazy segments actually, apart from NRT to DXB and MSY to SYD. But didn't stop the AAgent asking whether I'm from Flyertalk and joking about a horrible death from jetlag.

And boo to BA for D0ing so early (SIN-LHR) and not allowing WL!! I was hoping to get some good sleep on the Club World beds and have enough energy to roam around London during a 13 hr transit b4 flying to DXB but I'm now booked on QF31. Despite prefering QF service I'd rather have a non-sloped bed on a red eye as there won't be much service to experience on a predominantly sleeping flight anyway. Will monitor BA 12 and 16 on EF anyway for a chance of D inventory appearing.

If you an average person you not doing to die from jet lag ! but there is some evidence that its not good for people, just like working night shift is not good for you. Anyway way its in J/D class so don't worry !

I think a lot of the agents must just see a combination of different destinations and realise its people attempting to maximise the SC/mile earn, after all who would really try and max out a DONE4 and get every last mile and segment in except crazy people like us.... says he who is sitting in a Bangkok hotel room checking email because i decided i would do one of the last finnair SIN-BKK-SIN flights.

(Except i got bumped to SQ on the way back tomorrow due to aircraft maint reasons.... hmmm oh well thats life, as long as i get my miles/SC why should i care, besides SQ is not all that bad)

Enjoy your trip ! i think i will have to do one late this year early next.

Managed to get a seat on BA12 SIN-LHR after all... glory glory.

Weird that AA's computer couldn't see any inventory for SIN-LHR like on EF. But I called BA UK, and they were able to confirm me a seat right away. Apparently the seats are available from an ex-UK inventory but blocked out for ex-SIN. AA's computer is also out of whack with BA as QF31 was still on my itinerary after BA had scrubbed it out from the record - but now fixed by AA. Anyone had any similar experiences with getting BA's seats?

edited to add - nothing wrong with QF but I just sleep better on BA for a night flight. Would fly QF over BA for a day flight though.

Not odd at all; this often happens where a carrier has differing availability for fare buckets on the same flight depending on the Agent/Carrier/Region/etc. from where a booking is being made.

So would this be feasible for a DONE - book a seat on a random date/flight where available, bring reloc to random offices of the operating carrier and get seat on desired flight? This assumes that inventory is still open for certain regions of course. So far this split inventory issue seems to be most common with BA.

One experience I had with this was back in August 2005! I was trying to book QF MEL to LHR for a specific day in in D.

E/F, INT and all N/A based fare bucket utilities were showing something like D4, but CX in CMB could only see D0. They even called Qantas and asked for seats to be released to no avail. The date coincided with Victorian labour Day Weekend 'eve', in the end I was able to book SYD-LHR with a cheap red e-deal to get to SYD.

Technically feasible, yes, but impossible to predict. Most carriers manipulate market-based inventory in one way or another. BA is a big practitioner of pulling a whole class rather than 'managing' it to D0 and allowing WL. Their Revenue management people must feel this is the best way to maximise the $. QF do it more with specials like I class for heavily discounted business, but tend to leave D in place.
