If a multi-city classic award is booked so that both flights occur on the one day can baggage be checked though to the final destination?

I have noticed that when I search for example BNE-LAX on the first day that these awards become available, I do not get any option to go via Sydney even though there are award seats on the SYD-LAX as well as BNE-SYD flights. The BNE-LAX via SYD option seems to become selectable a couple of days later. However, on the first day of availability I have noticed I am able to do a multi-city BNE-SYD followed by SYD-LAX on the same day without a problem.

As I would prefer to book on the first day that award seats are able to be booked, will I be able to have my luggage checked all the way through to LAX on the multi-city ticket or would I need to collect luggage in SYD and re-check it?

Specifically looking at QF8 to SYD followed by QF11 to LAX so plenty of time (4hs+) between scheduled arrival in SYD and departure to LAX.

Yes they should do this automatically if it's on the same itinerary. Even if it isn't you can ask for them to through-check as both are QF services.

Thanks for that.

Would I still be eligible for chauffeur drive pick up in BNE if in J/F under this scenario?

If all travel is same day it does not matter whether you have separate pnrs or not or if one is an award ticket & the other is a paid ticket.

AFAIK if you use the multi city tool you will be paying more in points as you will be charged points for the BNE/SYD sector & the SYD/LAX sector instead of the BNE x/SYD LAX points that permits a domestic transfer.

Do your sums then I would call QF & ask if they will waive the assistance fee as the flights are available but you are not able to book that combo online which they can substantiate.

Just did a dummy booking up to the point of payment and it looks like the price is the same either way you book it. IE BNE-SYD + SYD-LAX in J is still 96k pts. So I guess the only unanswered question is around the eligibility for chauffeur drive pickup in BNE.

Hi NoName,

From the Chauffer Drive T+C.

"5. Chauffeur Drive is also available in Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Hobart, Perth, Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington to passengers travelling on Qantas operated flights that connect to or from an eligible Qantas international flight above (and travelling in First or Business on the eligible international flight). Customers do not need to be travelling in Business on the domestic or trans-Tasman flight. The Domestic or trans-Tasman flight must be in the same booking as the eligible international flight."

So I think you are OK.
