Hi.
Been following the discussions and have finally made the leap to make a comment.
I recently booked a Qantas Any Seat Award for my nephew. As happens, he had to cancel. When trying to get the points refunded to my account, I was educated that the Any Seat Awards are a purchase of a seat and not a Frequent Flyer redemption. As such, the points are not credited back to me. The ticket is considered a Paid Non-Refundable Ticket. As such, only a voucher can be issued. (Not the end of the world, I travel overseas more than 12 times a year.) However, as the ticket was issued in my nephews name, the voucher can only be made out in his name (the booking name cannot be changed). This has came as a surprise to me and not very well explained on the qantas website. I have lost the points and I have lost the voucher!!!! Doesn't seem fair (but who said QF were fair).
I would be interested if others have been caught out in this way.

I have booked and cancelled ASAs in J for my partner and the points (and cash) were always refunded to me, not to her, so possibly this is just a side effect of booking a non-refundable fare class and not the ASA itself.

Correct, as a guide red e deal fare conditions are the most likely to apply for the cheapest redemptions.

Yes. I'm generous with my nephew but not that generous.
Ok, that makes sense then since most X fare bucket economy ASA's have non refundable terms in the fare rules.

This is different from those JASA/FASA bookings that have "fully refundable" terms which override any "voucher" clauses.
