Seems now even the smallest things are replaced with xx_xx_x ie wtf is now xx_. Ffs also has become xx_. cough is xx_x. Seems my posts are now a crude stream of xx_xx_xx_x when in reality there is no swearing or what could be considered bad language involved. No f no c not even a dh. If wtf or ffs are not allowed, then i am offended by wp, as it is implying wp are masterbating platinums. So it say it again... Wtf is going on ffs ????

Your post is an oxymoron, after all all your examples are not examples, cough is xx_X the surely your post would say xx_x is xx_x?????. Posts edited by anyone including mods are labelled as such.

Well it appears one of the virgin fanboi's is sooking to the mods, and certain mods may be secret fanbois as well, thats all i am saying. Oh and why is my wtf, ffs, cough etc not changed to xx_xx_xx_ in here as it was in the other thread? Grrrr.

What thread are you talking about? You have not been around for long so your comments about mods being secret Fanbois could probably do with a rethink over time, it's a very balanced team with many of us sharing the love with earned status on more than one airline and hotel chain, that's no secret. It's probably fair to say the only thing we are one eyed about is making sure this forum continues to offer value and good advice by ensuring the rules are adhered to.

It's quite normal to think that your posts never need moderating, but others do. I used to think that way, and was most put out when what I thought were hilarious, clever and well targeted insults were moderated. Particularly as others seemed to get away with it, and those "others" were mostly in the old boys/girls club.

But after some consideration I have come to the conclusion that the bias in moderating is pretty mild here (compared to other forums), and the worst inconsistencies are probably due to an overworked moderator having a bad day.

So I think we should all consider being moderated as a badge of honour, and if you have never been moderated then you are just not trying hard enough!

As for repetitive and rubbish posts - some people just like to get the last word in or believe that volume = quality. You can't do much about them without putting more burden on moderators, but I believe a "dislikes" button would be useful.

I will have to look at the Virgin forum more, I seem to have missed the fun. The Virgin vs Qantas thing reminds me of the never ending Fords vs Holdens debate (remember Fords vs Holdens? I was a Ford man eons ago)

Pineappleskip you are a disgrace to the regiment! You've never been moderated, you silly sod. See if you can lift your game, you poor deluded wretch.

Cheers skip

I'd say that the Mods do a very good job on this forum (considering it's volunteer work). Some threads get way off topic on AFF (within reason), try doing that on Flyertalk or Whirlpool (probably the most restrictive site l've ever visited and l'm pretty much only browse Whirlpool now).

I believe a long time ago a +/- button was trialled, but was discontinued as it lead to people voting down unnecessarily, as you can imagine would happen. Problem same reason why Facebook has never added a 'dislike' button…

I have to agree with previous posters - the moderators must surely feel unloved from time to time given that they volunteer their time and can get a whack round the ears when only doing their job. I wouldn't do it for quids. :D Can somebody explain 'trolling' please? Is it comments posted by trolls?:D

Troll (Internet) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Basically It means posting something for the pure purpose of evoking reactions.

Well it's their choice; no-one's forcing them to do it.

I do have a bit of a gripe with some of the moderators on this forum though. Some just seem to carry on as if they are regular members, posting at will.

But given their extreme powers, they might also be tempted to act as schoolyard bullies, so really I feel they should remain aloof from day to day posting to enable them to do their job without fear or favour. If they have just posted as a member this might be quite difficult to do if they want to be seen as remaining independent.

Just my 2 bob's worth, trying to be constructive.

The danger with stopping the moderators joining in the topics is that you lose a valuable viewpoint. I don't know for sure but suspect that mods are selected because they are active in the forums, show a degree of knowledge about subjects discussed here, and show a level of sensibility. I can't see the point of losing that by preventing their contribution to threads.

AFF is a relatively happy community from my experience...but with the odd difference here and there.

YMMV But some of the best tips come from the flying experiences of moderators, not to mention the occasional good value laugh. (Momentarily forgetting the times I disagree with their posts/positions/POVs.)

I do however think that it important that Admin (or whatever the name is) takes the position you outline. Which seems to be the case.

We briefly discussed the system they have to prevent this during the meet a mod dinner in Sydney recently. It sounded pretty good, as described by the mod. Overall they are a fairly reasonable group of people* so the risk of a rogue mod is very low. Certainly the benefit of their vast knowledge outweighs the risk.

I suspect many mods would hand in their capes if they had to choose between posting and moderating. After a while reading everyone's PMs can get a bit boring ;).

I generally feel that the mods keep the forum clean.

I have seen some comments and thought that they where over the top and should be taken off.

I have posted the occasional comment and thought that might be a bit over the line but in the heat went stuff it...Lets just say it!!!!

I have the utmost respect for the mods because it is all volunteer time.

Most people in this forum have some heavy travel and work load schedule.
