Moderating

Well it's their choice; no-one's forcing them to do it.

I do have a bit of a gripe with some of the moderators on this forum though. Some just seem to carry on as if they are regular members, posting at will.

But given their extreme powers, they might also be tempted to act as schoolyard bullies, so really I feel they should remain aloof from day to day posting to enable them to do their job without fear or favour. If they have just posted as a member this might be quite difficult to do if they want to be seen as remaining independent.

Just my 2 bob's worth, trying to be constructive.
Budley,

On this forum the moderators are forum members first and will (normally) make it obvious when they being moderators. Fortunately the need for them to play moderator is relatively rare.

As one of the longer active members on AFF, I like to put on record that I have met all 5 moderators in person, and they are truly amazing with their knowledge on points, airline stuff, travel experience etc and they all give this information freely to the AFF community. As an added bonus as moderators, they volunteer their time to maintain civility and order on this forum; the fact that they have let this thread remain open says a lot about their character and skin thickness:p. On other forums eg FT, absolutely no public discussion about moderator activity is allowed.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

There are 5 moderators :) Who aren't you counting?

Budley,

Your point would be valid if there was one but there is five mods.

support, you have me curious. Mods I understand, and Admin.
Are you an admin for when Admin is out?

Cheers skip

Re: There's 5 Moderators

Ahh! How could I forget NM?

Excluding myself, there's over 32 years and more than 38,000 posts worth of AFF experience.
Why exclude yourself?

So including you there's over 39 years and more than 56,000 posts worth of AFF experience. Or simply put >12% of the posts on AFF.

And I am sure I have said it somewhere but I have no issue with any of the current moderators and I am one that gets in strife more often than most on AFF....

Nah, I think its my day today :D

I also have met all 5 moderators, and would like to put on record their amazing ability to drink a QP dry in no time flat! All right, that's not true. :p

Being serious for at least a moment, it is doubtless a tough job. As one poster said, they choose to do it. And I thank them for it, as it must be quite time consuming, and it's not easy to have to mull over 'disciplining' a fellow AFF member for an errant post or two. And I say that as somebody, who despite trying to keep all my posts 'nice', has not been able to help himself on rare occasions, and has had the odd post moderated/deleted.

That's not to say I necessarily agree with all the mod comments I see, but this is a diverse board and I can happily live with that.

AFF's moderators' experience and knowledge is invaluable, but I don't necessarily think a moderator needs to have great subject knowledge in order to moderate well. It's just a bonus (and perhaps a deliberate part in their 'selection') that AFF's do.

They are members first and moderators second. I cannot imagine AFF with moderators who were unable to post as members.

I also think the mods do a great job.

The time they invest is invaluable and their contributions are always welcome.

I am only active on this forum so can't provide a comparison with any other forums.

IMHO..... It is never going to an easy role as you can NEVER please everyone EVERY time! I think they tend to do a great job which is pretty thankless!!
