Missed flight: No notification of Lord Howe Island flight rebooking/time change

With all my flights booked via a CTA I get contacted directly by Qantas for schedule changes.
Is this an option TAs specify or are CTAs systematically treated differently to retail TAs?

Most CTA will use your contact details in the booking so this would be the reason normally
 
?????? Manner. What is a GDS reservation system. It's a tough call as we were told the change to.our seats occurred at 7pm on a Sunday night and we were supposed to fly at 11.40 am Monday.

GDS= Global Distribution System is the generic term used for the system that travel agents and airlines use to book flights

Its very unusual that such a big time change (earlier) would happen within 24Hrs before departure – where did that info come from ?

I agree but it happens. Back in 2010, I arrived at DRW for my flight back to BNE. Flight went tech. No advance notice received. I ended up arriving in BNE at 10pm. The routing was DRW-ADL-BNE. I returned to BNE domestic at 6am so I could do BNE-SYD-BKK.

Not to me personally, but a mate who flies with QFlink often, had this happen to him (1 or 2 hrs earlier). The CTA at the time would almost always include our mobile numbers on the booking, and he swears he received no text or notification of the change until he went to check-in and was apparently chastised for running very close to check-in close.

I recently contact ACA regarding Qantas changing our flight time to 4 1/2 hours earlier than our scheduled flight and not notifying us, thus we missed our flight. Qantas rescheduled our tickets for the next day, but we had already missed one day of our holiday and that flight was cancelled, likewise the flight the next day. I asked ACA if Qantas can do this without notice, the only reply was that Qantas had been in touch with me and the matter was resolved. Well I am sorry ACA, the matter has not been resolved and Qantas are refusing to tell me why they changed our flight without notice.:oops:

What rights does a passenger have when an airline changes a scheduled flight to an earlier time (4 1/2hrs) than the ticketed time without notifying the passenger, thus causing the passenger to miss the early flight as they turn up at the ticketed time.

It depends on the airline. It would be helpful to know which airline and the route you were taking. The airline's conditions of carriage may then provide some insight into your options.

A low cost carrier may be less forgiving than a legacy carrier. Some airlines even have terms and conditions which require you to check your flight time before departure.

You could also ask QF to provide a document that confirms how and when they contacted your TA, to advise of the change. It's plausible that your TA might be looking to minimise their liability.

That sounds plausible to me. I always book my o/s travel with my very reliable TA. Once, they failed to put my contact details in the booking (they left their own in there) and of course it was a time the flight was changed, during the night Oz time and so not only did I not get the notification but the TA didn't see it until the following morning. Because of our long standing relationship, the TA of course fessed up and compensated me. A 'casual' TA relationship may not see the same level of customer service after the event.


Yes we booked with a travel agent. Qantas say they notified the travel agent re the change of flight to 7am from 11.40am, but the travel agent has no such email.<snip>.

I have done that, no one has received an email. <snip>.

How do you know ... really?

take emotion out of it and ask for facts

ask Qantas for the following

1- when did the time change happen ?
2- when was the time change notified ?
3- how was the time change notified ?
4- who was the time change notified to ?

Once you have that information you will be able to assess your options better if you should be challenging the travel agent or airline for compensation
 
Are you sure it was QF2260?

Flightstats indicate that flight was bacially on time, departing at 11:40am:

Looking further it seems all LDH flights the day before (13Nov) were cancelled.

I guess they had to find space for more PAX than they had come Monday.

Suspecting the booking was actually switched from QF2260 to QF7940 which was the 7am departure (as above, QF2260 flew on time at 11:40am).

Note that Qantas seemed to be aware if issues as QF7940 was listed as early as 5:30am Sunday.
 
If it was an involuntary switch from the later ticketed flight to an earlier one, this one would seem to be on Qantas for compensation.
