What part of One World Sapphire don't they understand? Are they thinking you have to be Qantas Club Member & not realise that Gold & Platinum is the same thing?

Apparently when they swiped my card, my status appeared as "Ruby" on their screen. I'm not sure why this was the case, the AA flights were booked after I had reached Saphire/Gold status on QF. I had to point out that not only did the boarding passes they issued me stated "Priority Access - Saphire" - but reiterated that my QF Gold/Saphire card was current (with an expiry of April 2012 printed on it).

The ladies on the door were not very helpful/friendly on either occasion. They told me I had to speak with Qantas to sort it out, and I was to "step away from the counter Sir". Once I asked to speak with the Manager, I was told, "Well I'm going to let you in this once".

:confused:Food yes ... drinks ... no!

Aside from complimentary basic drinks (including alcohol) and snacks, a non AA program member with A/C lounge access is entitled to chits which can be redeemed for 'premium' drinks.

What complimentary alcoholic beverages do they offer without the chit? Every time I visit an AA lounge I get two chits (OWE?), have never asked for nor received (obviously :) ) any further alcoholic beverages.

Basic "well" drinks - Maybe "Bud", house wine, standard Spirits - also if you have used your chits, just go back and request more. ;)

Oh I never knew that - F lounge in LAX was open slather with quite good food and open bar - Admirals Club on LAX-MIA-POP leg I was handed 1 x Complimentary Drink Voucher - I thought that meant after 1st drink alchohol was paid.

On STI-POP-LAX leg as soon as I entered Admirals Club I propped and exclaimed to the 3 dragons behind reception that this was the first Lounge I had ever entered that was staffed by "3 Angels" - after the giggling stopped they gave me 3 x Complimentary Drink Vouchers. But I still never thought you could just ask for more.

As for food - there was none - snacks? - 2 glass towers of pretzel mix was all I saw - there may have been cakes / biscuits - don't know - buit no other snacks - if you wanted food you went and purchased it at the vendor set up there.

I probably would have been more accurate to just compare the Admitrals Club to The Lounge or Qantas Club - then ask the question - are we in Australia spoilt or are the Yanks deprived?

On worldwide terms, I would suggest the latter, although the QP's do tend to provide more than most lounges.

They are a legacy of the two 2 airline system.

Obviously status wont allow the OP access, but the Flagship lounge in MIA is not too bad (not as good as JFK or LAX, similar to ORD).

It is still amusing how AA still dont list this on there website (the Flagship lounge, since it re-opened in '08 (I think, or '07))

The MIA Flagship lounge closed in September last year. We had used it the March before.

When I went through there in January 2011 and had to make do with the A/C's.

A new one is planned; it was due to have opened by now but has been deferred.
