Guys I will have 6 hours to kill in MIA - I would assume Admirals Club is best lounge to frequent?

The 2 AA lounges are similar. There is a 3rd ba/AA lounge, but access rights are murky as an associated lounge.

With 6 hours to kill I'd consider leaving the airport area and go into Miami proper... The Admirals club at MIA is nothing special at all and 6 hours would be a fair bit of time to kill in a place which doesn't quite rate as highly as a Dom QP.

Just keep in mind that if you leave the airside area unless your travelling with a PS (OW Ruby) or better you will not get access to the priority security lines. Last time I was there the priority security line took 20 minutes, as a guess the normal security line would have taken a good couple of hours, so make sure you factor in security hassels if you do leave airside.

Edit - An F booking should give "AAccess" which will speed up the security lines for you if you did want to leave...

Dep LAX at 22:40 arr MIA 06:30 - dep MIA 12:00 - so actually have 5.5hrs.

Was kinda thinking of just poking out a few ZZZ's if I could get somewhere near horizontal.

Agree with Harvyk, they are nothing special. Time frame will be a little tight and costly to get to city. I was there in Feb. There are showers, largest lounge is a weird shape but it should be possible to find a leather chair and have a snooze.

Unfortunately I go thru MIA regularly. Yes the joint lounge in the E terminal is a hell of a lot better. ( I love self-pouring bourbon - personal thing!) The two AA lounges are cough. BUT, I suspect you wont get access due to your arrival time. I was there last week and walked the hundred miles to get to the E concourse and the sign on the lounge said only open 1pm till 10 or 11pm. Not happy!

Cheers.

Thanks for that but web search indicates only open 1pm to 9pm so that aint gonna work.

PP gets me into Club America lounge - any idea how they compare to Admirals Club?

HTML:
Hop on the bus to south beach. Costs about a fiver return, takes about 30 minutes each way.
You could either hangout on the beach or check out the stores down Collins avenue (near 15th st)
or Lincoln rd mall. Much better than any airport lounge, especially admirals!!

Goldy thanks for your input - however I will be coming off 3 nights of sleepless drunken revelry in Las Vegas - heading to 4 nights of serious partying in DR - shopping aint really what I will be looking for.

Have done that. Really good service. But despite having a fantastic time at the beach was petrified (in my jet-lagged state) of falling asleep. Last visit got cab (expensive yes) to Santa Monica beach. Was great.

I truly hate a stopover around the 6 hr mark. Not really enough time to warrant a hotel, but too long to float around. I know this is not helpful, but just sharing your pain :)

No I really appreciate the input - I will be feeling no pain I can assure you - just need to get somewhere near horizontal and No the floor won't cut it.

That may be a little bit of a problem. I don't remember which Admirals I went to but I don't remember seeing any couch large enough to take a sleep on... Infact from memory they where all armchairs which did not have very high backs on them at all, so sleeping would have been very uncomfortable.

I suspect, though havent tried it myself, that the only way to sleep in an AA lounge and have some security that they would faithfully wake you for your flight, would be to suck up major time to the lasses at the desk. And I mean find some flowers!! Or perfume. At least!! :)

Was in Admirals Club in MIA near D30 - I assume that is the bigger of the 2 AC's.

Arrived 06:30 and departed 12:00 - furtherest from entry door is 2 sets of chairs with no arm / sides on them - placed another chair to end of one set of these chairs and got a great 3 hour kip.

Very ordinary lounge - hate the way you gotta pay for food and drinks - are we spoilt or are the Yanks deprived?

I was at both MIA Admirals clubs last week (different days). The ladies on the door tried to refuse me access with my current QF Gold card and AA boarding pass. Stood my ground and got in.

Not sure it was worth the effort. Lack of decent complimentary food or drink.

OT, I've noticed the Admirals Clubs have recently switched to open free wifi (rather than handing out tokens). Was at ORD the other day, and the wifi provided by AT&T was very good. Qantas - please take note.

I smell a status run! Sounds like you're enacting the move "The Hangover" 1 & 2! Live the dream. :p

What part of One World Sapphire don't they understand? Are they thinking you have to be Qantas Club Member & not realise that Gold & Platinum is the same thing?

Not OT at all - god that stupid WiFi system they have - they are changing ALL their lounges to open access with no login required I was told - it took me like 20 mins in LAX to login - mind you I know I am not real clever.

Agree 100%, although I'm going with the Yanks are deprived rather than we are spoilt...

:confused:Food yes ... drinks ... no!

Aside from complimentary basic drinks (including alcohol) and snacks, a non AA program member with A/C lounge access is entitled to chits which can be redeemed for 'premium' drinks.
