Just replied to two very different posts in the same thread and had my replies automatically merged.
Is this a new " feature"?
Not a fan personally - I can do multi-quote myself if I am replying to related posts.
If I do separate replies I intend them to be separate.

Solution
Multi-quote isn't just for related replies. We regularly get reports of strings of replies that may or may not be related in a thread, and usually merge them. This just takes the human factor out of it. You may find that some of your previous "double postings" as it were, have been merged in the past, but you were not aware of it.

Currently the time frame between posts being auto-merged or not is 1 minute. This could increase in the future, but for now if you want to force your posts to be separate, you should wait a minute before posting again. Seeing as there is an anti-flood/spam feature already that imposes a gap, that should limit the speed of double posting anyway, so this shouldn't be too much longer of a wait. I can't promise a...

I can't promise a manual merge might not happen if the posts are reported though ;)

That said, the feature will be evaluated to see how well it performs and if tweaks need to be made. One such tweak already is that it does not operate in the Trip Report forum.

Out of curiosity to what mischief is this addressed? Is there a problem with multiple replies ?

Some features of AFF require a specific number of posts to access. Posters, including spammers seek to post pad to access these features.

Occasionally, some people post pad to get a higher status.

Another issue is that a post takes up a minimum amount of screen space and having more than one cosectice consecutive takes up more space than a single post with the same content.

Merging these means less scrolling and hence a better UI experience.

The only issue I see with this is when I respond to two completely different posts and they get merged. Makes it more difficult for people to respond to appropriately.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

I'm ashamed to admit I've been manually deleting text from the quote when replying but have learned something new...
Happy to hear. Selective quoting was covered in September 2017, when we moved from vBulletin to Xenforo 1.5.
