Have a JAL flight leaving MEL after midnight and read the first lounge closing time is 11:30pm. I also noted there are a few other One World flights depart after closing. I usually fly ex SYD, so was wondering do people get booted out of the lounge or is there another lounge open at this time of night?

QF9 till late March departs at 11:25pm. If this flight is delayed they’ll keep the lounge open. If not they’ll close it. As to what will happen from late March who knows?

There is the QF Business Lounge and the Cathay Pacific Lounge. You could check if either of those is open.

It'll be interesting to see what time the F lounge closes beyond late March, given that there will be the late night QF95 to LAX, QF49 to SFO, QFxx_ to AKL without a F cabin, and QR to DOH with a F cabin. Then there's emeralds on JL/MH/CX, again without F cabins.

I've been told there's no guarantee it will remain open beyond the LAX / SFO departures - but no decision has been made yet. Personally, I'd be surprised if it doesn't remain open until at least the scheduled time for the AKL flight. At least I hope that's the case, as I have at least 3 of these flights post-March already booked or likely to be required.

I can see the reasoning for the LAX/SFO departures but it also conveniently covers QR's A380 with F to DOH which departs at the same time.

And the EK flight to DXB also with F - though not OW of course, but may be a part of the deal.

EK don't like their F pax going to QF F and vice versa... I doubt it has any standing on this.

There's certainly been a push by EK to steer their pax on check-in and transit (although the latter will soon be irrelevant) to the EK lounge. But, can't stop status pax accessing the F lounge, and all EK flights get the double call and an individual pax call if required, as per any OW flight. So even if not a requirement, it will have some impact on the lounge and QF's motivations.

But moot point given timing.
