Looking to stay near Melbourne airport later this month ... arriving after 11pm; departing next day early afternoon.

When booking the Ibis Styles and Novotel prices were reflective of being concurrent the Australian Open Tennis.

The Mantra was more reasonable with a Hot Deal.

Has any used the Mantra and have some advice/tips about it?

The Mantra is in a somewhat residential area with nothing around it. If you don't have a car then I doubt you'll get a taxi to accept such a short fare so you might have to look into the hotel's shuttle service. The rooms are ok. The breakfast buffet is of average quality.

I stayed there in 2022. They have a free shuttle bus service (not sure if they'd be operating when you arrive though. Hotel was fine. On site restaurant ok. I had a morning departure so didn't need to check out the surrounding area or hotel facilities.

They do advertise a "free on demand" shuttle which I am hoping to use. I was wondering if any here had experience with it, especially after 11pm.

I stayed there last year and used the on-demand shuttle both to and from the airport.

My wife was flying at 6:30am on a Qantas domestic flight. We had no problem booking the shuttle for 5am. Then after seeing her off I called and the shuttle came and picked me up to take me back to the hotel — it was about a 15 minute wait, from memory.

Overall I think I paid $90 for one night’s accommodation and three rides on the shuttle: that’s pretty good value.

The rooms are pretty good for a budget hotel. Didn’t use the buffet. But I’d happily stay there again.

The shuttle service for the Melbourne Airport Mantra is complimentary and is available 24/7.

It seems they share the shuttle with United Airport Parking.

I sent an email and received this reply.

What’s wrong with the Ibis Budget? No shuttle required, no ALL participation and you have the joys of the BP Buffet 24/7, I may have answered my own question ;)

Price!

When booked, the Ibis Budget was $154. Both Ibis Styles and Novotel over $200.

I scored a $99 Red Hot deal at the Mantra.

To be fair, hotel breakfast was not a real consideration given the Qantas First lounge is beckoning.

Last year I had half a dozen stays at Ibis Styles, making full use of Red Hot Rooms.
