Hi All,

Travelling first class with EK from Melb in a couple of weeks. Just wondering if anyone knows what lounges are open at melb? i have 5 hours there

QF Flounge, Marhaba for you to use. EK lounge still not open with no opening date set.

I should say, Flounge is open only for four hours before a QF flight. Which I understand at the moment is only SIN, LAX and LHR if you'd like to check the schedule.

And I think in a couple of weeks times there is only 1 day in the week - Saturday - where EK operates on the same day as a QF late afternoon flight, and looking at departure times - QF 9 departs at 18:30 whilst EK departs at 22:30.

If the QF domestic J lounge is open would that be an option for a couple of hours initially?

I'm really not sure, sorry. If it's QF codeshare then perhaps.

FWIW I'm flying on 20/12, EK at 2030 and there is a QF LAX flight at 2330 or so.

From what I can see looks like its a codeshare with QF so does that mean the QF Flounge should be open?

No, Qantas will open relative to its own operated flight schedules until there are enough partner airline flights to make it worthwhile have a wider opening.

In fact on Dec 20 there are QF9 at 7:40pm and QF93 at 11:25pm.

The lounge will likely open around 4pm and close 7pm when the LHR flight boards. It would reopen after 8pm and close shortly after 10:30pm.

So from what i'm seeing flying on 8 Dec there is a whole load of nothing other than the malhabra ? or will the QF domestic admit me?

I have often used QF domestic before heading to International (e.g. Waiting for check-in to open).

As for the Marharba lounge, while it is not an "abridged" QF first, it is OK. Note that it is shopwing online as not opening until 7pm.

I am flying EK ex-MEL later this year in Y with wife plus two young kids. Our flights are QF-coded and I am QF Gold, the other passengers have no status with either airline.

Will I have the choice of both the EK and the QF lounge if both are open?

I would have thought that you should have no issues in accessing the QF lounge as your status will allow entry as you can bring in a guest and the young kids should not count and IME QF has very good access polices for children. I am not 100% sure about the EK lounge I would have thought you can access based on your access and the QF/EK partnership. I am not sure what the EK rules are for guests, children and have not looked into the specifics. You can always try the EK lounge and if refused entry the backup should be QF.

Thanks Matt, that sounds like a plan. My EK flight is an 9.15pm departure so it may be the case that the QF lounge could have closed for the day depending on their scheduled flights.
