I have a overnight flight connection coming up at MEL.
Arrive 2245
Depart 0725

They won't check through, so allowing for baggage collection and checking in the next morning, I'd have around 5 hours.
Would you get a hotel or stay at T2?

For your sanity, I'd say get a hotel room - Novotel, Holiday Inn, ibis budget, whatever. Not too far, of course. Probably will cost a fair chunk for a few hours sleep, but staying in the terminal is going to feel worse, unless you are a true night owl.

It's a sunday night.
Getting up at 6am as normal for a sunday (get ready for work to leave for the bus by 740).
Get off work at 1730, go home, collect bags etc and head to the airport for the last flight to MEL of the day.
I normally stay up late on my days off.

I've overnighted at a number of airports before (LAX, JFK, SIN, DXB, DOH, IAH, PEK).

Hotel personally. If you were able to be airside, I'd consider it but landside there's not TOO many places to comfortably chill for a few hours. Ibis styles, Ibis budget or if you want to travel out a bit one of the "airport" hotels that have their own shuttles could work too.

Not the craziest idea if you can semi stay up until 4:30 if you want to go that route as well. QF lounge should be open once you're inside as well (at least J would be i think F opens slightly later than J) assuming you're taking OW - guessing JL or CX with that departure time ?

I’d also stay at a hotel, as having access to a private bed and bathroom makes me feel much more human, ahead of possibly a day of flying.

But it seems you have a much higher tolerance for overnighting in terminals!

One consideration: I believe all lounges at INT terminal at MEL close overnight. Even J passengers on the QR flight DOH-ADL with a long stop over in MEL are left to fend for themselves in the international terminal.

JL774 in 2 weeks. (given the timing and that week, I assume you know where I'm going)
Had looked into the CX flight, but can't get to the airport in time after work to make the connection and have to overnight in either MEL or SYD to connect to the JL flights.
