Had my first visit in quite some time to QF's International Business Lounge at MEL, flying out on overnight MH flight. Really did appreciate the nice shower, it came after a six hour drive so was good to relax me for the overnight flight in economy (well that and the couple of scotch whisky's).

I had a really nice burger with the lot at the Lizard Roadhouse in Charlton on the way to the airport, so I didn't feel hungry, but I'm glad I did. Not impressed with the "slop" they were serving up for hot food. Maybe it was because it was late evening, and aside from QF 151 to AKL, all other flights at that time of night were partner, JQ or codeshare flights.

Food was "Pasta Tuna Bake" or "Vegetable Dahl" , not sure how it tasted, but certainly didn't look terribly appetizing. Is this now the norm there? Luckily I usually take QF 37 or EK 405 and can get into the EK J lounge, which is in a completely different league.

I haven’t been in the Melbourne lounge but was in the Sydney J international lounge in December and thought the food was pretty awful looking and didn’t have any. Really not up to scratch as an International J lounge....Plus the toilets were filthy,

Well I didn't use the general toilets, but the shower room I used was spotless so can't complain about that.

I can't help think, given the current standard of catering, they could actually offer something quite useful by offering an "Uber Eats" type service where food could be ordered/paid for and delivered to the lounge from within the international terminal. Between Cafe Vue, Baxa, Brunetti, and Bar Pulpo, I am sure there could be something of appeal, to be washed down with free drinks in the lounge o_O

Did you provide feedback?
I went and complained at the front desk. Initially they were inclined to ignore me, but after I gave them a detailed description they went off to find someone to arrange cleaning....

and the next step is to set up a cafe in the lounge as with American Airlines, where we can pay for our meals :)
