MEL Dom. lounges refurb Completed October 2018

If I had paid QC membership, and was denied bringing in a guest, I would expect some compensation from Qantas!!!

Agree, my son will be in exactly this situation. And what about those guest passes handed out with say Silver membership.

You can still use the one off lounge invitation for the other direction e.g. in SYD before flying to MEL. You only get one invitation a year as a Silver member.

Of course if you collect these passes from credit cards and rely on them for lounge access for a limited amount of Y travel you'll be hard hit, but if you only have the one pass you'll just have to use it outside of peak times or at another domestic airport or when flying internationally on QF.

Taking guests in and/or using lounge invitations is always subject to capacity being available.

Well that will depend on how your travel plans are.

I agree that paid QP members have been somewhat shafted with this.

They (and SG) are being shafted after the renos are completed as well with no tarmac views apparently.
Yes that’s my understanding too. Trade off for more space. Apparently. But the J lounge needed improvement also. I know. Get rid of the CL area to the right.

This will make the fall eventually back to SG all the more painful (natural light makes a big difference to lounges and night views of planes taking off are great too).

It also sends a clear signal that they'll ignore feedback suggesting they move the International Business Class lounge to somewhere with tarmac views as well. When you're paying for a longhaul J flight to LHR It'd be nice to have a tarmac view from the J Lounge.

I'll be transiting MEL mid November but fortunately with mrsdrron who will still be WP.
We will be transiting mid November as well, but happily outside peak time southbound, and travelling on J for the return from Tas. So should be able to negotiate it ok.

As long as Qantas call their most basic international lounges “business” this is to be expected and, frankly, totally fine. The basic lounge should be basic.

The issue is QF not properly catering for all classes.

A J lounge should be better. And it sounds like the dom J lounge will be. At present it is not in MEL.

And a temporary disruption while the construction is being done is nothing to whinge about. Come on people.

Do you have access to J lounge? Coz really you won’t be impacted.

The Dom J lounge in BNE was a little worse during the renovations, so I expect there will be a similar experience in the MEL J lounge. However clearly those only with access to the QANTAS Club will be affected a lot more.

Yes, but that’s not relevant to my comments on the post I referred to or this thread.
Well I felt you were calling out others who were going to be impacted and suggesting their complaints weren’t necessary when you are not affected yourself.

Well that wasn’t (totally) my intention. Standard for this forum anyway ;)

Everyone will be affected while the construction occurs. I don’t think it is a big deal.

I'll echo an earlier point about how this could be tough for the front line staff at the QP entrance, especially when a Platinum or P1 waltzes through with two guests while a QP/Gold is refused.

But no doubt this is all a dry run for the renovations in ADL, bringing us our own J lounge ;)

Because you personally can still guest people in. For some that is significant inconvenience. Means partners/family etc won’t be able to enter the lounge for something like 6 months during those times.

It's potentially even worse than that. The restrictions come into effect mid-November and will continue through to the second half of 2018. In other words, it could very well be 12 months of no guesting in peak hours for QP/SG members!

A friend of mine who levelled up to WP recently will be glad to be able to take guests in at least for most of the time the renovations are taking place.

I'm going to retain WP again so should be fine.

If you're a SG and thinking of levelling up this could be the year!

How painful! Although, truthfully, I get a sense that this construction site QP is going to be so embarrassing no one would want to bring a guest in (or even really be there themselves.) Still, I hope it'll be all worth it...

If you can get free food or drinks and hopefully a seat to sit in it'll still be better than waiting by the gate imo.

When I travel for work I can get meals reimbursed but needing to keep track of one less receipt is nice.
