MEL-CBR CBR-MEL now 767?

Just booked flights MEL-CBR and CBR-MEL and one of them is a 767! (or ?)

Will be a first for me for CBR flights.

I've not seen a 767 at CBR. Does it happen often?

I have been on one going to CBR from SYD.

It was a full flight.

Certainly not unusual - there is more than one thread on it here aside from this one.

It's often taken a reasonable amount of airfreight as well.

Regular? Just checked the whole month of Jan 2014 and my flight is the only day in the whole month that a 767 does CBR-MEL at 12:25. But I suppose if once a month is regular, it's still regular!!

Not really - it's a regular in the summer schedules ...

Did a bit of research. Seems a 767 MEL-CBR or CBR-MEL is pretty much always due to QF804 (dep MEL 07:20) and QF811 (dep CBR 09:10). But these flights are not always 767. And never in January. And 767s are not part of a CBR-MEL summer schedule.

So one right in the middle of Jan 2014 (and at midday) is (well just a bit) strange!

Hi AIRwin. We all have our likes and dislikes but I would say it is not worth spending 5000 points for the dubious pleasure of early morning Business lounge access and a rushed breakfast service on a one hour flight. And so often the Canberra flight is on a 734!
But on Monday appears to be a 767.

Depends, I have done it a few times, when it's been the 767 or the 737-800 and I think it's value!

For a 737-400 then NO

From memory it was Mon, Tue, Wed for the 767 flight.

Interesting serfty. I didn't know about the early MEL-CBR flight (I never catch it). But it shows that apart from it (QF804) a 767 is indeed a rarity on the route! (~ once/month)

For the record, I will always pick QF811 if time allows since it is operated by a B767, and it's nice to fly on something other than a 737 / dash ex CBR every so often.

I've only ever taken QF804 once, however when I did it was pretty full. Also looking at the timings it's scheduled to depart MEL as the first CBR flight of the day and arrive in CBR at the start of the business day, making it ideal for business day trippers, thus the larger sized aircraft.

QF811 on the other hand is almost always empty (that said I think it carries a lot of freight, I've always seen more ULD's loaded in than what could be possible for only pax baggage).

One annoying thing about going MEL-CBR is that the earliest flight is at 0730. I have been able to get onto the 0730 flight and be at my desk in CBR by 0900 though a slightly earlier flight would be amazing.

As posted on another thread CBR-MEL is certainly an interesting aircraft mix on some days.

On 13 Jan 2014, CBR-MEL is operated by Q.400, 717, 734, 738, 767 !! 5 different aircraft types! I happened to book the 767 flight and first thought it must be a mistake!
