After the Reward earn changes on 14/3/16 my take is as follows;

ANZ Black

$1 Visa 1.25ANZ points = 0.417 SQ (3ANZ/1SQ) 0.625 VA ( 2ANZ /1 VA) 0.417 AM ( 3ANZ/1 AM)

$1 Amex 3.00 ANZ points = 1.00 SQ (3ANZ/1SQ) 1.50 VA ( 2ANZ /1 VA) 1.00 AM ( 3ANZ/1 AM)

With twice yearly VA 15% promos its a no brainer to send your ANZ black points off to VA

A better rate if we transfer to VA and transfer to KF.

$1 Visa 1.25ANZ points 0.625 VA ( 2ANZ /1 VA) / 1.35 conversion to KF = 0.46KF ( will give better rate when VA 15% promo comes into play 0.53 )

FYI: My recent application anz black card ( visa still giving me 2 points ). My wife cards obtain last year has been reduced to 1.25

Apllied for teh QF ANZ today with teh 75k sign on points and no fee for the 1st year.

this still works on Bpay so should help to build some QF points at 2/1 for Visa ( until they change it for new customers)

So it seems westpac altitude black Mastercard is the best value for SQ points ? $1 for 0.625

Any visa/MC card better than above for SQ points ?

Yes.

Citi Signature card now is $1 = .75 SQ points for local and overseas spend $395 Annual Fee (Unless the fee free for life comes back)

and even better

St George/BankSA Amplify is $1= .75 SQ points for local spend (which becomes .825 on your birthday for past transactions) and 1.5 SQ points for overseas spend (which becomes 1.65 on your birthday for past transactions) $279 Annual fee

I think that you may have missed the boat and I checked abouta week ago and noted that the new rates now applied for new customers for both the FF and Rewards Blacks..

ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Visa0.75 Qantas Points2 per $1 spent on eligible purchases

ANZ Rewards Black Visa1.25 Reward Points2 per $1 spent on eligible purchases
So that just leaves a small group that applied this year (old customers are on the new rate), but before the new rates applied for new business.

Today received today anz statement black credit card. this card was obtained about 2 months ago ( when the promotions running visa 2 points, amex 3 points ).

It does not says anything about changes: visa 2 points, amex 3 points ( I assume this remain the same ).

Replaced with the following clause
effective from 1 July 2016

Clause 7
You will not earn Reward Points on
interest charges; premiums paid for
ANZ Credit Card Insurance; government
charges; bank fees; payments made
to the Australian Taxation Office or
other taxation payments or duties;
card account adjustments resulting
from disputed transactions or
otherwise; balance transfers; cash
advances (as defined in the ANZ Credit
Cards Conditions of Use); or transactions
which are identified to ANZ by the
relevant merchant or any intermediary
financial institution as falling into one
of these categories.

Currently with the 15% Velocity transfer bonus in May, it is best to transfer to Velocity now to get the bonus.

For the new customers under the old earning rate , it means Amex earn is 1.725 VA points/dollar, Visa earn 1.15 VA points/dollar. This assumes if you transfer the points to VA in May to take advantage of the bonus.

Then you can always transfer points from VA to SQ Krisflyer, the equivalent earn on the ANZ Rewards Black card would be for Amex: 1.27 KF points/dollar, for Visa: 0.85 KF points/dollar.

This is better than most cards these days. Suggest keep the card for 11 months at least, until ANZ inform us with the new earn rate.

Sent over 1m points from ANZ Black rewards on 1 May to Velocity. Bonus of 15% from ANZ points plus a 15% bonus from Velocity. Now thats a good deal ;)

Somehow I am still get 2:1 on the Visa! Interesting they didn't just blanket change.

I just checked my online statement and I also am still getting 2 points per $ on the Black Visa card.

I guess I'll keep using it until they change the rate to match the new terms...

Just wondering - people who didn't get enhanced down to the new earn rates back in March, have any of you been enhanced down to them since? Or still getting the rates that applied when you signed up? I hold the ANZ Platinum Rewards (applied January 2016) and am still earning 3pts/$ AMEX and 1.5pts/$ VISA. I'm wondering how much longer that might last.

I cant check now because I've closed the account and online rewards access closes along with it - but certainly as of July I was still getting 2x points / $ on the Black Rewards VISA and I'm fairly certain that last time I looked online I was still getting this rate.

It was a good earner this card, but when the annual fee time came around I really had to ask both myself and the agent I spoke with ... whats the returned benefit for such a high fee? The agent pointed to travel insurance and lounge access, I countered with the fact that the lounge access agreement was mostly broken and rarely worked (never for me) due to disputes between the lounges and Veloce. Travel insurance ... well -all- my cards offer this and I usually book on Velocity Amex as the earn is outstanding.... which left us with ... well ... nothing else. The agent tried to get me to move onto a Plat card as the fee is cheaper, but the earn is even worse at 1:1 (so 0.5/$1 VFF points) and the agent insisted I was only earning 1.25/$1 now (though my statements begged to differ ...) so no doubt whatsoever that lower earn was coming my way.

Add to that the removal of ATO payment points early last year and, well, you suddenly realise that its just another high fee card without any outstanding benefits. Anyway, to their credit the offer was to halve the fee for this coming year only. At $187 thats still not free and still for a card with nothing much interesting to offer so I asked for some points to help me swallow the reduced fee ... but no, couldn't do it so I let the account go. I'll turn up on their doorstep in a years time looking for some new customer sign on points (its kind of ridiculous this game sometimes).

Note to others who are going to close their card accounts:

- The CSR told me that they would refund my annual fee, already charged, but as a goodwill gesture only as the original agreement stated that the fee wasn't refundable after the statement date if further transactions had been made. I didn't check the agreement to see if this was true, but it sounds about right. So, be careful. If you're going to cancel, stop using the card well before the annual fee date.

- Despite what the CSR said, once you close your account you also immediately lose access to the rewards website. You do still have 60 days to use up your points, but you can't see them or look at the transaction history online, you need to call and work through it by voice.

- Be aware that minimum points redemption is 3000 points. I moved pretty much all mine before I closed the account, but there are some dregs left over from the current statement month which will probably be lost.

So still 1:2 on Visa (Black) here, thought id be back to Citi Signature by now but my card has yet to be enhanced. Certainly not complaining but find it odd that my earn hasn't fallen in line with the current/advertised reduced earn.

Anyone else in the same boat? - guess most will have cancelled this card by now, its not worth the annual fee IMO (at $55 in my case tied to a home loan package i can barely justify it).

Yep still on the 2:1 on Visa! So 1 VFF point per $ (well more like 1.3 per $ when you transfer during bonus). But yea probably looking to cancel the card in a week or so with my anniversary up.

Got a letter today stating changes to my ANZ black cards.
From August I won't be able to use my AMEX card.
Visa points earn is 2 ANZ rewards points per $1 spent on elegible transactions the first $5000 per statement period and 1 point per$ for spend over $5000 per statement period.

Received the same letter from ANZ recently. I have this card for more then 10 years. Time to find something as a replacement!
