Hi Guys

I've been having a look around for a small room to make a presentation to about 15-20 people (in Sydney, mid June) - and not having much luck.

I'm only needing it for 2 hours, and have been quoted by some places (who will go unnamed) around $1800 for the 2 hours!!

Does this seem unreasonable, and if so... any suggestions on where else I could try?

That rate is ridiculous. A full day's hire should be less than that (including equipment).

Qantas Club meeting rooms go for $100 an hour (max $600), but you need to be flying QF same day.

Yeh, exactly.

I did look at QC, but the only problem I saw was getting people from all around Sydney to come and meet us at the airport. As we are trying to get them onboard with our product, the mindset of people is to come along and view it *without* having to spend money - and we all know what parking at Sydney is like, and I doubt they'd all happily catch the train in!

How about any of the Serviced Offices around the city? Christies, Servcorp, Regus...etc

Can imagine they being overly excessive.

The cost of parking, in the city, for those without their own spaces, is almost as bad as the airport, IMO. Try Parramatta etc*... Bankstown should be avoided though, IMO, but I have even been to an event there, once.

Make sure its after 1pm when the bar is open and arrange a minibus to collect people from a city location if they require transport. Still going to work out cheaper and they can be "fed and watered" in the lounge after the presentation.

The City of Sydney would likely have a variety of rooms. There is also a place called something like Sydney Venue in North Sydney that may have something. As mentioned, places like servcorp might have something suitable as well

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Ended up finding a hotel thats about 2 minutes out of the CBD for a very reasonable rate - very happy

Can you name the venue or at least the location? I have a user group to organise next month and the less we spend on the venue, the more there is for "refreshments"!!!

Cheers,

Andrew

We actually went to a tender briefing held at the airport a while ago - in the old Golden Wings lounge - brought back some happy and sad memories...

Mercure Ultimo is a good choice, they hold a lot of stamp auctions there, a pleasant enough place

Just an update - had the event on Monday and went very well. The hotel was very accommodating and their service levels were second to none.

It's much more than I can say for the Novotel which is located just down the road..

This brings us on to Melbourne - we're looking for a similar kind of setup, so feel free to shoot off any ideas!

Try the Holiday Inn at the airport - I've been to a few there and I understand cost is reasonable.

Just sent off a request for a quote.

Tried the Swanston (also Mercure Welcome.. sort of a 2 hotels in one setup), who were priced very similar to their counterpart in Sydney, so looking good so far.
