Marriott Bonvoy

Thoughts plse - There's a 5 n for 4 on reward bookings at the moment and I'm looking at Tokyo next year.

It would make a new Aloft in Ginza effectively 'free'. Or, there's the Tokyo Marriott for which I'd have to buy points to get 5n for 4.
Any thoughts on this plse?

For a longish stay the Marriott would be more comfortable.

Does a platinum automatically get lounge access or is it only room category based?

Per the Marriott website, platinum elite benefits include: "At hotel brands that have lounges, you’ll have full access and complimentary breakfast. See terms and conditions for participating brands."

Not particularly helpful for you but when I stayed at the Marriott in Copenhagen, as a platinum I had access to the Club Lounge. Even better, it was actually quite nice with good food.

I did just phone Marriott Tokyo (normally I don't expect to reliable info when just calling up), but they confirmed that as a plat exec lounge will be included. Now to work out if it is worth the extra cash to buy points - even with current bonus. It looks to have good food too. And, they have an HND shuttle which would be hand to avoid the subway first up with case.
CPH Marriott lounge also has a nice view over the river I seem to remember, but not been there for a long time.

I bought a few points under the bonus offer. Got the base points but bonus not credited yet. Does it take long, (not that I’m going anywhere right now)?

Email received from Bonvoy this morning:

Elite Members — 50% Extra Elite Night Credits
Given the disruption in your travel plans this year, we will be giving you a head start toward earning status next year by depositing 50% of the Elite Night Credits (“ENCs”) into your account based on your 2019 earned Elite status tier. Your 2019 earned status has already been renewed through February 2022, so these additional ENCs will jump-start your ability to move quickly to the next Elite tier. You will see these additional ENCs deposited in your account in late July.

As a reminder, we announced several Program updates earlier this year that extended your benefits so that you have ample time to experience and enjoy them:
Status Extension: You’ll be able to enjoy the status that you earned in 2019 through February 2022.
Points Expiration: The expiration of points will be paused until February 2021, which provides you additional time to redeem your points.
Suite Night Awards™ (SNAs): The expiration of your suite nights has been extended by one year, so you can use them through December 31, 2021.
Free Night Award (FNA): Eligible Free Night Awards have now been extended to January 31, 2021.

The 50% elite night bonus will come in handy.I accidentally qualified plat last year - I am LTP so didn't have to stay 50 nights. So next year will likely stay at more Marriotts as burnt with a few independent hotels with no refunds because of the pandemic. So just may get to titanium for 1 year.

We had quite a few stays in January this year so the 50% elite bonus will leave me only 7 nights short of renewing platinum. I am assuming I would then be eligible for the 5 suite night awards (which I didn't get previously because I got platinum via a status challenge). Whether this is worth chasing will depend upon how international travel is looking for 2021.

The SNAs were great when with SPG.I used to get 10 per year and could use them easily.Since the takeover I only get 5 and twice have not been able to use them.

Some members starting to receive their 50% bonus elite nights. Mine haven't come through yet but now expecting them to in the next few days. Accordingly to Marriott, they should all be deposited by the end of July.

And my promotional nights posted overnight. Now I only need 7 nights to requalify for platinum.

Exactly. As I am LTP no need to go for plat requalification but do I try for titanium by staying another 45 nights.Probably not.

But your Platinum (existing status level?) would already have been extended for another year; you need to be aiming for Titanium.

My platinum will be extended but I wasn't sure whether that would extend to receiving the 5 Suite night awards. I am assuming that I will get them if I requalify for platinum with 50 nights. I didn't get them this year as I got my platinum status via a status challenge.

I would love to reach Titanium but it will not happen this year as I am based in MEL so can't even leave the house atm!

I’ve only stayed in the SYD Harbour Marriott and prefer a large corner room. Hotel is at the north end of Pitt Street near the ferries, Opera House and bars, The Rocks and off to the Zoo etc. I liked the lounge before COVID, I don’t know what the state of it is now.

I haven't stayed in any of them recently but it may be worth checking what changes have been implemented at the hotels you are considering to see how they have been impacted by COVID (eg are lounges closed, access to gym, pool, etc).
