Manners, Attitude and Etiquete in Qantas Lounges

This is my biggest bugbear. And why don't toilet doors open outwards so you can push them open with your shoes when you leave rather than having to place your nice clean hands on a handle that has been touched by someone who has just left the cubicle?

I have been known to take a paper towel and use that to hold the handle on the way out.

Since being on a glorious Holland America line cruise, I always aim to use a paper towel when opening such doors. On the cruise, they either had automatically opening doors or cloth hand towels specifically located near the door for just this purpose.

Amazing research showing at a medical conference, the minority of attendees washed their hands after using the loo!

Saw some bogan recently in the BKK QP pick up a chicken wing at the serving bar, eat it while standing there and then put the bone back down on the same plate (with other chicken wings on it) and walk off, leaving the Thai staff there looking dumbfounded.

It's times like these I'm glad I'm vegetarian.
Such as when you are in Germany.
And I certainly have seen those that plunge their hand into a bowl of cherry tomatoes to scoop them out.
Sorry but you are just as much at risk.

Its disgusting to see adults pick up communal food with their fingers ..... but if they're fast and touches only their thing, I might let it slip.

However when I see kids around buffet tables, then it starts getting me nervous as they love to handle food, touch, play with it and their irresponsible parents aren't like wathing over them...... (I usually see this as hotel buffets though).

Well I feel safer travelling knowing that on the whole I am surrounded by a host of Hygeine freeks. Let's make a little logical analysis. The lettuce had horse excreta on it, the chicken was part of a dirty chickens behind running around on a dropping covered floor, the cheese was fresh milk that has undergone various rotting processes, the egg used to be part of the chicken's ovary. The chef handled it all as well. The salami wasn't cooked the sushi is raw. The flour had mice and rat **** in it before it was milled (one hopes not after)

But don't worry, if the last person in the chain uses tongs you will be safe.

I often introduce my Sushi chef to visitors as 'the man who has run his fingers through my food before I eat it'

If a belief that tong use will make a difference - go for it.

I understand what you are saying but it is clearly wrong to handle food, that others will also eat, with fingers that have tocuhed the groin, thae backside, hair, nose and God know what else. Chef at this point is excluded from the argument.

Also wrong to eat out of the communal salad with your own fork. It took a few years to educate my old boss but finally did it.

Just because you do it at home does not make it acceptable out in public. Sorry if that makes you uncomfortable....

Lots of chefs touch food - but they are generally quite careful to ensure that thy clean their hands.
