I can't find a link to post, but heard on the radio that COAG have decided on mandatory photo ID for domestic flights.
Airline passengers could soon be forced to produce photo identification before boarding domestic flights in Australia, bringing security standards in line with those at international terminals.
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) and aviation security experts have long argued that identity checks are needed to prevent criminals and fugitives boarding flights under false names.
There have also been calls for liquid restrictions and full body scans.
While photo ID was once required for all domestic flights, most airlines now offer self-service kiosks and mobile check-in, meaning passengers never have to prove who they are.
The ABC understands the Federal Government is moving to close that gap and will announce the additional security measure before the end of the year.
I wonder how this would be implemented? I hope it doesn't mean you will need a boarding pass to proceed through security (and to the lounge).

Because it looks like they are doing something. That’s all.Why are people in government always so stupid?
ID has nothing at all to do with security.
There’s not many other countries in the world you can still do this.More security theatre.
What a shame if it means friends and family members will no longer be able to come through security to farewell and welcome people.

Surely, the ability to police fugitives will become dependent on the quality of the fake ID that criminals can procure (of course they won't do that because it is against the law.).
Probably less than that, these days. Many years ago when working in the fraud area and the Australia card was mooted the law enforcement authorities said that it takes six months for new identity documentation to be successfully copied to the extent you can't tell the difference from a genuine document.
If you hand over your FF card at the start of the interaction it's very unlikely you'll be asked for photo ID.
