Hi All

Just seeing if I have this right so if you were just using Malaysia Airlines to travel within Asia or from Asia to Europe or even Asia to Australia would be okay for maximum earn of points?

Also I have tried a booking a redemption booking on qantas.com but the city pair I am looking for Hanoi to Kuala Lumpur does not come up so would have to be booked through telephone sales with the assisted booking fee.

thanks in advance

Complex and not as extensive as I had hoped.

Clear ploy to keep people away from booking MH to/from the destinations listed and instead book with the QF/EK alliance. The 0.75 earn in business and 0.25 earn in full Y on the selected routes is a particularly curious slap in the face!

I expect the QR earning table will look much the same when it comes out.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Has anyone ever thought that this is maybe due to MH not wanting to pay more for the points, as they are the ones who have to pay for them?

Yes, but it seemed far more likely that it was QF that initiated this, considering the differing earn for different routes...

Thank you, I tried but couldn't fix it :)

Hi All

No - within Asia you'll get about half the earn rate as you would under Enrich, but you'll need to be on an MHflex fare (under Enrich you earn points under almost all fares except the super-discounted ones). For Asia to Australia, on the KL/SYD flight you'll have to buy the most expensive fare (again, MHflex) which in my experience books into B or H, giving you 25% of the points you would get under Enrich.

QF are generously offering to double the points for a short period - but so are MH! Unless you need QF status credits, you'd be better accruing points under MH.

Apologies if this has already been answered elsewhere.... Does anyone know what the redemption booking codes are?

Except that the earn rates are reasonable with most other OneWorld airlines. QF has he worst rates by far, so unless QF charges most for points (and even then, why would you decrease the earn rate on specific routes) I don't believe this is a factor.

Check the fare buckets before validating that statement, you could pay less and fly in Business which earns more than some of the economy options on other schemes.

I obviously spend too much time in the back of the bus :) I will qualify my statement that no other OW partner earns at 25% in Y (and most are better in the slightly discounted rates like B/H). I'd still put QF in the bottom quartile, but stand corrected that on some fares they may not be the worst.

$400 will get you BKK KUL SIN in J, costs less than most of the Y earning fare buckets but books into Z which is non earning on most other airlines tables.

This is very very and very disappointing Qantas. I have been looking forward Qatar Airways and Malaysia Airlines joining Oneworld to allow me additional Qantas points. Should this earn rate to continue, I may need to switch to Virgin as my main points earning airlines and change the credit card points earning to a card that only gives me Virgin points as well. The only disadvantage of Virgin right now is that I cannot redeem points on an Airline to East Asia with competitive rate.

I just wish QF would just get a move on with its Asian strategy. QF start flying to KUL please, and codeshare on routes from KUL to around Asia please. :D

How dare Qantas protect it's own business in the middle of an attempted turn around. How dare they offer lower earn rates on a competitive carrier than on their own metal, how dare they structure their frequent flyer program to benefit their airline more so than their competitors. How dare Qantas try to look after its own interests, they should of known well that all Australian customers would prefer to travel on Malaysian and should therefore of afford a earn rate that was better than that on QF, Qantas how dare you… Shame on you.

I'd say that QF want to offer/ are obliged to offer (under the OW agreement) the option of earning and burning points on MH. But they don't want people to shift all their business to MH. I personally have chosen to fly CX over QF in the past due to their price being cheaper for what I perceived as being an equally good, if not better product than QF. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has done that. Now, in the context of this, I can imagine that QF would like to deter, as much as possible, people from taking their business to MH possibly under a similar motive to that of people go to CX.

I can understand how this makes sense from a commercial standpoint, but from a personal standpoint, IMHO, this is rubbish. My thoughts, anyway.

So just credit points to AA or whoever, still use your QF status and fly MH. That's my plan. QF lose as an airline and as a loyalty programme, not my problem. If you requalify for WP in weeks not months then don't let the game dictate your plans.

Either way glad to no longer have to credit to VS, missed a good 100 SC on intra-Asian routes last month alone.

Thank you Oliverd that does clear it up a little I have booked frequent flyer seats with QF to Asia and then am looking at booking Mh within Asia on their Z class Business class which is cool as at the moment I need status credits more than I need the points to try and reach gold this year with QF.
