Malaysian Airlines booking/passport details

Hi all ,

I have a quick question in regards to booking some of those cheap SYD - KUL return fares on MH. I'm wanting to buy them asap however my friend who is going to come along with me has just applied for her passport and it should be arriving soon, however i would like to book the tickets now and am wondering if MH require the passport details on booking because I remember awhile back I needed them for a few airlines to book , Air NZ being one.

If anyone knows that would be good

Whether passport details are needed for online bookings seems to depend upon the website design rather than any legal requirement.
I would try booking online and leaving the relevant missing data blank. If it objects and refuses to complete the booking, book by other means if the fares are available by telephone or travel agent. If this is not possible you could even try filling the online fields with your friend's old passport details and amend the expiry date to the future (more than 6 months after travel)
Don't forget to update the details once your friend receives her passport and well before you head out to the airport.
