Hi everyone,

Has anyone here used AA Miles to book Malaysia Airlines J class flights ?
(Sorry if i had asked too many questions lately Re: The other thread about AA Miles/Etihad flights)
Just that, at the last minute , i have to return to KL in January next year for Chinese New Year.

And, i assume that you need roughly 80K points for a return flight ?

Thank you!

Hello

I did it last year DRW-KUL-HKG and return. I found that the AA website doesn't show MH award availability, so you'll need to book it over the phone. I suggest you check if MH has availability on the dates you need to fly on the BA website or an award site (if you haven't done so already).

IIRC AA charge a fee if you book too close (within 4 weeks) of the departure date, so you may want to get in early. They might also try to impose a phone booking fee but you should be able to get it waived since you can't book online.

And you're right, it's 40k points each way for a MH J redemption to KUL (or anywhere in Asia outside the Indian subcontinent, for that matter).

I've used them in the past and new issues. Nowadays they've got 1-2-1 J config on a few of their flights so I am interested to try them again.

Always felt onboard service was great just the lounge was very ordinary for a hub lounge.

It's 21 days before a "close in" fee may be assessed.

Also internal policy is that phone fees are to be waived for bookings that can't be made online.

Yep. Booking on MH can be a good option if you can't find oneworld availability on Qantas or Cathay. Malaysian award availability is usually pretty good too.
