Made any travel mistakes lately?

Nearly made one yesterday when I forgot to do the Singapore arrivals card until the Captain announced commencing descent into Singapore. Fortunately have done a few so got it done and submitted. Got the successful message and about 30 seconds later the wifi was turned off.

It's not too bad in Changi if you forget. They have a section before immigration in each of the arrival halls with tablet devices where you can do this. Still, you saved some time.

In my excitement to lock in DSC, I booked a trip to CDG on a Y Sale Fare (couldn't get budget approval for PE or J).

I completely forgot that Sale Fares are not eligible for upgrade requests (should have booked Saver Fare instead).

Oh well.

I was thinking that it might have been cancelled due to the current situation in that part of the world (yeah I know it's months away) but it was just to tell me my flight will now land ten minutes earlier than originally scheduled!

I've got a mate currently in DEL, who has DEL-DOH-AUH (J/F) in a few days (then AUH-DOH-LON (Y) the same day), all on QR. He's now booked ET DEL-ADD-LHR (Y) as a backup for £399.

There would still be a difference in fare which I would have to pay. I couldn't get budget approval for the difference anyway.

Left mobile on board, and Qantas found it (very happy). Is anyone travelling from Melbourne to Darwin who might be able to assist with transporting it to me? It's currently in Baggage Services at Melbourne Domestic. Alternative is to pay for Pack & Send which will take longer...

10-hour overnight layover at Changi turned into 15.5 hours thanks to a delay. It was over Christmas and I left it too late to book a transit hotel, and didn’t feel like I had enough time to go landside for a room. Ended up attempting a very uncomfortable 'sleep' in a chair in T3. Not my finest decision.

Define mistake please? Like of you go to sleep in TPR and staff have to come wake you at 23:45 to catch SQ26 at 23:55 then technically that could or could not be construed as a mistake could it?

That probably depends whether you made it onto the flight! If not it's just maximum efficiency napping.

I went so far as shoving the Eurostar ticket into my Apple wallet before realising … wait, WTF, that’s the wrong day!
No idea what happened, maybe I had the “cheapest” checkbox selected so it automagically sent me to the next day? Changing the ticket to the day before was about $50 more exxy so it was more pricy … outta ideas as to why it auto-flipped to the next day.

Got Mr Denali tickets to Iron Maiden Nov 15th concert and was feeling very smug that I got a Novotel Olympic Park hotel booking at half the usual event price

Found out today that the concert is at Allianz stadium at Moore Park, not Accor stadium at Olympic Park

Thankfully I can cancel the Novotel booking without penalty but very annoying

Apparently in CAN, JAL don’t allow the part checkin of baggage, my CAN-HND-SYD-MCY flight will see my baggage reunited with me in Sydney tomorrow, along with my charging paraphernalia. Thankfully I able to get online during the flight across from China and order an emergency supply of jocks/socks and shirt for delivery to my hotel this morning.

One of the reasons I didn’t take more carry on was the security screening at CAN is very rigid, and I have 15 lithium batteries in my carry on. On the plus side at HND plane could not have got a gate closer to arrivals formalities and I was on the train 15 minutes after arriving…..with no baggage.

So I rented what is classified as a “furnished apartment” in Lausanne Switzerland.
It was a bit cheaper than the hotels, plus to be honest I kinda like just getting yummies from a shop or market & enjoying it in the apartment rather than eating all meals at restaurants/cafes, so I like there being a wee kitchenette & plates etc.

But when I booked I was not aware that furnished apartments don’t get the benefit of the very generously subsidised tourist public transport pass … if you stay at a hotel you’re given a pass that gives you free public transport while you’re there. And being Switzerland that stuff can be really expensive, quite likely more expensive per-day than the extra cost if I’d chosen a hotel.

It’s not a big price difference, I may still have chosen to go the way I did, it’s just not something I’d taken into account or known when booking …
