Amex travel insurance should kick in for baggage delayed more than 6 hours. I'd call them, asap.
Thanks. I've called them and gone through to Chubb who said a 6 hour delay can receive up to a $200 payment for replacement clothes and toiletries. I assume that means the one outfit. It gets a bit more vague after that but I think they pay another $200 up to 48 hours. Then if it's lost for good I've got to claim with receipts or other evidence.
I think it will turn up but it will be too late for my purposes, that is, the walk, so I'm not sure how a claim goes then. I will be replacing everything now at my cost but could end up with two of everything.

I often wonder how the guy in front of me at lost luggage in ZQN got on after they lost his luggage with his (very expensive Sage) fly gear, which meant his short weekend trip was completely ruined.

As a silver lining, I'd imagine he'd be glad to re-purchase the gear assuming it was possible to do so on insurance, then have his lost gear turn up.

Hope you can salvage something out of it.

Biggest travel boo boo for me
Landing HCMC 18/2

Vietnam E-visa
Applied for it 6/2

Paid $25AUD
But did not get any confirmation email in return

Emailed them 11/2 per contact details - no reply as of today

Pulled the pin on 13/2 and made another application on before travel
Got auto email that application is processed. OK a little better

I then realised that this week is New Year Holidays in Vietnam and it may not be processed in time and Saturday being the weekend.

So in 2 days my flight departs for HCMC and I have no visa.

Contacted a Vietnam expedited visa website by phone who said urgent visas won't be processed today or tomorrow (16/2, 17/2) as Immigration visa dept closed today and tomorrow. I fly out 18/2. They can process urgent last minute visa on the day I fly out but I would have to change my flight to arrive after 6pm due to time constraints

Cost of last minute visa USD $320
Need to get 2 passport photos
Cost of changing Flights to arrive after 1800hrs AUD $200 for 2 pax in J.

🤡😡

I have pretty extensive experience in this area, which is kind of ironic given I so rarely check a bag. I'd say I'm at a 80% hit rate on delayed/lost baggage on the odd occassion I have to check it in.

The best airline I've dealt with? Enter Air. A little / unknown Polish charter airline - @RooFlyer and @k_sheep know them. They paid up in full without any quibble, although it was only £300 or so worth ($600) (just under 1.5 weeks without bag).

I had a long, torturous experience with AA/AS - but in the end after a complaint to the DOT, eventually they paid up in full (1.5 weeks without bag).

In both instances, AMEX insurance was an option and I didn't have to call/lodge with them right away, indeed when I started one claim it was 3 weeks after arriving back. In the UK, on the platinum charge card they'll pay up to £300 usually (based on receipts only). You can also split the difference, so try the airline first and if they pay out X, use TI for the gap Y. Hopefully in your case that'll cover it. AMEX were very pleasant and deal with and paid out quick. No excess, either. Interesting that for you, Chubb doesn't seem to have a limit with receipts and the up to $200 is based on ...... no receipts?

The worst airline I've dealt with? UL, even with a complaint raised with their local aviation authority.

The in between airlines I've dealt with ......... AT, AF, SN, BA.

Russian marathon runner Sergey Zyryanov mistakenly ate a bar of soap after completing a 10-kilometre race in Thailand on 15 February. The two-time Buriram Marathon champion mistook the orange packaging and contents for a free confectionery or jelly snack provided in his souvenir recovery bag.
The athlete shared a photograph on social media showing the soap with a visible bite mark, admitting he sought a sugar boost following the physical exertion of the race. He confirmed the item was actually a well-known local brand of herbal soap rather than a dessert.

Wow what mirror did you break to get that outcome? In 50.years of airline travel (in one particular year >250 sectors) I have never lost a bag and on one occasion had a delay of <1day on one bag. Hope I haven't jinxed myself now 🤞
