Macquarie Bank takes over from HSBC

What a hassle

My password received in the mail did not work and took 3 telephone calls over 60 minutes to finally get it sorted.

Yes, big migration issues are being experienced, in what one would think, would be a simple procedure, given today's technology.

Anyone else notice on the Woolworths Money website that there is a new card design for a Qantas Visa?

Macquarie debited my bank account twice for my October payment... Rang on Wednesday and said I was considering cancelling my card due to the stuffup....they offered me a free balance transfer or no interest for 6 months.... I told them that was of no use as I always repay my monthly balance in full. Anyway had to email a copy of my bank statement showing the duplicate payment so I cheekily added a note that I was disappointed with Macquarie and asked for a fee waiver to give me a chance to see if their service is as good as they originally promised..

Got my refund the next day but still waiting on their response to my request for a fee waiver...No dramas if I do cancel as my renewal is not due until December and I have several other cards including a 'no fee' Signature as a fallback. On the bright side, it gives me an excuse to sign up for another card with bonus points!

To keep a long story short... missed a call today and when I rang back was on the phone for nearly 50 minutes, mostly on and off hold. No joy on the fee waiver and Macquarie's customer service didn't fill me with confidence so cancelled. Luckily picked up an ANZ card with bonus points earlier today..

Best of luck to those who choose to remain with Macquarie....seems they are a very different player to HSBC

Family member rang today and informed by Senior customer support(so I am told) that can offer 1/2 price annual fee..$70.
Did not take offer.

So do I then ask to speak to cancellation department in an attempt to total waiver......do they have one like HSBC?

They have $3k credit on card....only way is to use it before cancelling card?
Will they return it to a nominated bank account????
Think WOW 5% off cards

You can see how many points you have been accruing before the statement is generated by clicking on the ! next to the account number. Just paid a small tax bill and for total spend on card this month of $13,000 for 13,800 points (a few Qantas double points)

Just one other thing to keep an eye out on - despite me cancelling the HSBC WOW EDR MasterCard in late Oct - I had kept the card just for the EDR barcode on the back, so stupid me went through a drive-thru today and accidently gave the operator my old WOW EDR Mastercard by mistake. Before I realized my mistake she did a $10 paywave transaction which was apparently approved! I got the cashier to double check her register and EFTPOS terminal and she maintained that the transaction was OK.

With this in mind I returned home, called Woolworths Money and got them to confirm the account is closed with $0 owing. So either there is such a thing as a free lunch - or Macquarie possibly have a surprise in store for me in the future?

I guess that's why they tell you to cut them up on cancellation huh? Just to cover myself, I'm going to call again tomorrow and get a receipt number for that "yes confirmed your account is closed" conversation.

Just had to lodge a disputed transaction now that they've switched to Macquarie. What was previously a very easy process with HSBC is now more difficult. HSBC had the forms available on the website, which could be emailed in - and it was very prompt.

Maquarie have told me they need to send it out to me via post. It was not until I pushed back to a supervisor, that they were willing to email the form.

I had to get the Ombudsman in to settle something that HSBC wouldn't cancel. Something that had taken months to discuss took "him" less than a week.

There is no free lunch, I think I read some posts in somewhere else that even you cancel your credit card, your account will stay open for another 2 months, which allows merchants to charge back just in case. Any charges after you close your account within 2 months, you are still liable to pay for.

I remembered after I canceled my NAB credit card, in final statement that shows "please call us back if you change your mind within next 2 months" which approves the account is still alive.

Finally the documents arrived Monday ... to the old address again - I had given the new occupants a heads up.

However, we had given up and spent 50 minutes on the 'phone cup day morning to get the new account/login details.

Free lunch is back!
Family member says as earlier in the thread....."Don't need card dumping it" after being offered only 50% off....rang back later after talking to me to cancel...used the high spend...other free card lines.... and told they would have account reviewed .....he had to ring back as fed up to cancel card and informed card reviewed and free for another 12 months....decided to keep it.....go figure!

Just on line looking at my account to check on the QF points earned, but can't find it. I thought it might be under transaction history.

EDIT: Just called them up and after telling me over and over again that October's points would credit on 15 November, and me questioning that over and over why I have to wait nearly 5 weeks for the points, she suddenly noticed that she could not actually see any points to be credited on my > $10,000 spend Now I have requested a call back on Monday after they have sorted it out. Geez, this is all I need after the frustrating time with the ANZ One Path debacle posted in that thread.

Sorry, was writing up my phone call as you were writing. See above - I have no points!

Is it supposed to be 1 :1 ?
0.51 Qantas Points this cycle

To those who got the fee waiver, did it work? I was given the waiver, but looking at this month's transactions there's a $139 annual fee listed.

Maybe it'll be credited at statement generation. I hope it is...

I have had the $139 fee charged too. I called up in October specifically to cancel the card because I wasn't paying the fee, only to be told my fee was charged on 14 October but not posted yet. I got an $89 credit a few days later. Looks like a call is in order, as even the section about timing of the fee in the contract variation documentation confirms that it is upon first transaction with HSBC and annually after. I haven't double checked my old statements, but given I was told of October 14, it is likely the relevant date as I applied for the card in late September last year and would have first spend in October.

Statement for the month has been generated - and no fee waiver. :(
