Thanks Johnk for the T-80 hours tip. I am flying Y on Saturday to MEL on a 738. As an SG, I was only able to pre-select seats from row 11 backwards. But at T-80 hour, I can select seats from row 4.
I hope you mean a 734 and not a jumbo! Yes the general expectation is that there will be many CL and Platinums on these flights so Advance Seat Selection maintains the zones for each status as much as possible.I've got a trip to CBR this week. Whilst I can obtain seats in rows 4/5 in the other flights (utilising T-80 and OLCI), I canNOT go any further up than row 13 for 2 flights SYD-CBR and CBR-SYD (both on 744 aircraft). Lordy, are there that many WPs on these 2 flights?!?!!

Just managed to get row 1 on the way back(I'm silver)

This has happened to me as a Platinum.I flew MEL-SYD last week around lunchtime on a 767 which was virtually empty.
As a NB using OLCI at around T-20 there was only 1 seat available for me (38J) and my seq # was 24. Interesting that even if the plane is almost empty as NB I still cannot select a decent seat using OLCI. I noted that rows 23/24 only had the window seats taken...and similar to many of the other rows (window seats only).
