Looks like QF/EK Alliance isn't working for QF. Europe now via London not DXB.

Probably more to do with re timings than anything else. A blog written by someone who is not prepared to be named lacks a lot of authenticity in my books when it comes to the information contained, especially since QF.com shows an entirely different story.

Not sure what you're looking at QF.com but if you ask for Sydney to Rome it shows as first preference SYD-LON-ROM. What do timings have to do with it?

QF.com wouldn't show an "entirely different story" as it uses Amadeus with the "e-travel Management" front end platform - so what the agents see in their displays is what QF.com shows. Same system.

Thanks GoldenWinger for reposting my article from my site.

Markis10 what exactly is not authentic about the information reported in the article? All availability options when an agent uses QF direct access to get flights from Australia to Europe shows via LHR. It some instances it doesn't even show the QF8000 series services via DXB. No need to take my word for it if you doubt what I wrote - feel free to phone QF or any agent and you will get the exact information as contained in the article I wrote.

err, no ......... I just did a search for a random date (28 June) on QF.com and the first one up was SYD-DXB-FCO.

Shouldn't that show the QF codeshare operates by emirates?

QF1 with a 7 hour wait in DXB? John Phelan why isn't is showing QF8413 which is the optimum connection?

Try a more forward date too like 10SEP.

Timings affect connections, with the changes a GDS will place the lowest travel time first. Depending a day and departure city, your first option will vary.

Not being a travel agent, I can't comment on the veracity of the claim about what shows up in searches...but really, I fail to see how one set of facts about search results leads logically to the conclusion that the EK/QF alliance is not "working out". QF is preferencing it's own metal. So what?

I checked some random dates dep 5NOV ret 15 NOV and get QF codeshares via DXB, although there are few options via LHR on BA, (at a higher price).

I don't see anything wrong with this, my biggest gripe with the EK alliance is that I still wanted choice to book different airlines (especially OW if I wanted to).

This could also be a sign of normalising of BA relations...

Travel Daily reported on this on the 6th of June (article not posted in full due to copyright).

QANTAS has adjusted its availability displays for flights to Europe, and is now suggesting that travel agents route their clients travelling to the continent via London Heathrow rather than directly through its Dubai hub. The move shows a preference by Qantas to put passengers on its own aircraft, despite the “metal-neutral” Emirates alliance.

<snip>

The QF codeshare flights with Emirates have not been removed from the GDS, but require bypass commands, meaning agents have to look harder to book the onestop Europe routes.

The TD article also referenced Airline Hub Buzz as a source for the story. Can anyone confirm the bypass command requirement for the QF codeshares?

Hi Katy - what system are you using? If you're using Galileo this would be the entry to show the QF coded flights via DXB...

A20JULSYDFCO/QF#

Amadeus and Sabre would have equivalent entry...the key is not to use "Direct Access" entry but "Neutral availability" giving preference to QF coded flights.

Not anymore for this route as QF have pulled all their codeshares off MXP/FCO - DXB. Can only book these as EKxx_x. Qantas have already adjusted my booking for next month and reissued a new ticket # with the EK flight code.

So no more SCs for you on the DXB-MXP/FCO segments? I would call QF and ask to be rerouted via LHR.

Yep. Got the email last week:

Dear astrosly

Booking Reference: xx_xx_

We would like to inform you that the flight number for your booking on Qantas codeshare flight operated by Emirates between Dubai and Milan has changed.

You will now be travelling on the same service but with an Emirates flight number.

This means you will travel as an Emirates passenger with an Emirates flight number for the sector between Dubai and Milan, rather than a Qantas passenger. All other details of your flight – date, departure time, travel class and inflight product - remain unchanged.

Qantas Frequent Flyer members booked to travel on a Qantas codeshare service between Dubai and Milan who are rebooked onto the Emirates flight number will earn the same Qantas Points and Status credits for their flight.

You will receive a new e-ticket itinerary receipt noting the change of flight number prior to your departure.

If you have any questions or require further information, please call Qantas on 13 13 13.

Regards

The Qantas Team

I had actually noticed the week before when I was checking the seat assignments but the booking had been locked to changes and when I called they confirmed that FCO codeshares have been removed as well.

They promise I will still get earn for this flight ... don't know about the rest of the flights in that they should still earn at the old rates as booked last Nov. Qantas say I can follow up if not posted as expected.

But I now "travel as an Emirates passenger" instead (!)

At least QF did the right thing by saying they will give you the SC.
