Hi everyone,

I’ll be flying into NYC soon and trying to figure out the best way to get from the airport into Manhattan. I’m considering either Uber or a pre-booked car service, but reliability is important especially in case of delays.

Has anyone had good experiences with private airport transfers recently? Looking for something dependable and smooth.

Appreciate any recommendations.

If arriving at JFK, take the AirTrain to Howard Beach station and the A line to Manhattan.

Easy, fast, efficient and cheap. JFK is a long way out and taxis etc. will cost.

I have no expereince of the other NYC airports.

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve looked at the AirTrain option and it does seem economical. I’ll be arriving with luggage though, so I’m just weighing up convenience vs cost.

Have you ever tried a private car service there, or do you usually stick with public transport?

Which airport? EWR, JFK or LGA?

I flew into LGA last year and took an Lyft into Manhattan. Was $US89 (including 20% tip).

JFK taxis to downtown are flat rate. ~$70 USD plus tip and toll.

I think this is still the case?

Time of day definitely makes a difference.

What time of day are you arriving and how much time have you allowed yourself to get downtown before your meeting, appointment etc?

I’ll be flying into JFK and landing early evening, so I’m expecting it might be busy. I’ll also have luggage, which is why I’m weighing up convenience vs cost.

The flat taxi rate sounds reasonable. Just wondering if pre-booked car services tend to be more predictable during peak times?

If you’re staying close to an A line subway station, the subway is a reasonable option. It’s cheap, reliable and generally accessible. You will invariably have to carry your bag to street level once downtown - usually one set of steps but nothing like the London Tube!

It’s contactless payment now also - so no stuffing around buying tickets etc.
