Hi All,

Just reviewing out travel plans to Europe booked for May , I have booked my Europe tickets using Qantas points all booked under classic reward flights . There are 3 different booking reference nos. as i booked them as the classic award tickets became available as below
Leg 1 Mel-Sin- Mel
Leg 2 Singapore-Doha- Vienna
Leg 3 Paris-Dubai-Singapore
I understand cancellation charges are 6000 points per passenger , does this mean i will be charged 6000X3 points per passenger or juts 6000 points per passenger for all 3 cancellations.
Can we pay cash instead of points for the cancellations? does anyone know how much do 6000 points translate to in terms of AUD

Thanks

There's a weird thing that I just found out when trying to cancel my reward bookings...

This is what I see when I try to cancel a booking that has no forced changes made to it:

But my other reward booking which Qantas/CI cancelled and changed does not show that but this instead:

How confusing is that?

I am hoping prempt (flight in June), a cancellation of a reward flight at no cost or points loss as the flight times have changed. Can't get QF to talk to me to of course. I don't want a voucher. I guess I have no hope in any of the 24 hours of the day to talk to QF? Must be patient and hope I get to them first before a voucher is issued.

this clarification from Qantas - buried in the 2000 comments on their facebook page:
We know there have been lots of questions on travel credits, so let us clear up some of the common queries:

Q. When do I need to book my new flight?
A. You need to re-book using your flight credit before its expiry date, which will be 30 September or later, depending on when your original booking was made.

Q. For what travel dates can I book my new flight?
A. You can book your new flight for any date that is available when you redeem your flight credit. Flights are available up to 355 days in advance.

Q. Who is eligible for a travel credit?
A. Customers who book directly with Qantas, and have a booking for travel before 31 May 2020. If you have booked with a Travel Agent or third-party website (Eg. Webjet, Expedia) you will need to contact them directly.

Q When do I need to cancel my flight to receive a flight credit and a waiver of the change fee?
A. By 31 March 2020.

I booked some QR flights using QFF classic rewards on 13/9/19 for travel on 13/4/20.

It appears I can change my flights without penalty/fees as QR has already cancelled/moved some of the sectors.

I do not want to cancel the ticket because it was booked before the devaluation.

My questions:
1) when is the latest date I can depart without voiding the whole ticket? is it 13/9/20? or 13/4/21?
2) when is the latest date I need to action the change? e.g. can I change my ticket post 13/4/20? or that will lead to a no-show.

thanks for any insights.

Today cancelling an April awards booking. This is the confirmation screen which clearly explains that I’ll get the points back without penalty.

For people with bookings after 31 May I would just be waiting until future announcements. Ie with the changing environment just wait out to see if the ‘no penalty’ window is expanded.

I have been waiting 4 weeks to get points and credit card refunded, is this unusual,
the problem is its nearly impossible to speak to Qantas at the moment, anybody else in the same boat??

Just to add to the data on rewards cancellations..... cancelled May one way rewards booking from CDG to ADL on 17 March. Received points (no 6000 points deducted) and taxes back this morning 22 March. Thought this was prompt considering the volume they would be currently dealing with.

Their published policy is to 'allow' 14 days for point cancellations. You may need to call given the time you have already waited.

The 14 days is mentioned here:

I just clicked voucher for a trip that is revenue one leg and classic reward on the return. What happens to the points part of that trip ? Will the revenue part get held as credit voucher and points returned?

I just went to cancel a SYD-MEL trip in May that was booked with points on a classic reward and the 'Cancel' option has disappeared, there is only the 'Voucher' option

Things are changing fast.

One thought is that there is not much difference between a voucher and points. Both are still in the Qantas system. A voucher has more restrictions depending upon your travel plans. The cancel would mean you get the tax dollars back.

So I clicked to cancel my reward flights last Wednesday (18 March) and asked for a refund. The website said clearly that the refund was possible and the 6,000 points cancellation fee would be waived. My flights stayed on my listing but when I clicked to manage the booking, it showed an error message. I took this as a clear indication that my flight had been cancelled.

Today, I got this e-mail:

Important information about your flight
Qantas has announced further network changes in response to Coronavirus and various government travel restrictions.
As a result, your upcoming flight has been cancelled and the value of your ticket stored in credit. You will receive a second email this week with the details of your credit voucher, which will outline the options available to you. Click here for more information regarding the Australian Consumer Law.

This looks to me like they have changed the rules six days after the fact. Should I now be trying to claim the full value of the lost points (205,200 of them) from my insurer?

In a time like this, being charged the 6k pt cancellation fee would actually be beneficial. I would rather have $400+ through my TI than 6k points, but no one is complaining.

Not sure where you get the $400 valuation for 6,000 points. I worked out on my route that it would be worth about $150.

I've been waiting about 2 weeks now. Something is happening in the background though as the bookings have disappeared in the "My Bookings" page of the website. I'll probably give them another week or so for the crazyness to slow down before I call them

Hi all, I have an economy flight from MEL-SYD for May that I had a confirmed upgrade on points to business. If I want to cancel my flight, do I cancel the upgrade first and then get a voucher for my flight? Or do I just click Cancel/Voucher straight away?

Cancel the upgrade first, then the flight.
