Link Airways baggage

So (as usual) I'm a little confused about Link Airways. When I book with Virgin CBR - SYD it's on one of the small, noisy Saab planes, operated by Link. "Virgin" also markets a Link flight to Hobart direct from Canberra once in a while.
Is Link actually a Virgin subsidiary?

My question mostly revolves around baggage. I generally travel light or drive, but sometimes I like to go hiking in Tasmania for a few days, and for that I need multiple bags.

As a Platinum, I get 3 x 23kg bags on normal Virgin flights, but apparently on Link my status means nothing nada zip, so I get only one.... what's everyone's experience with this > could I get two on, or has Virgin stiffed us again?

So the direct flight - if so - is useless, and I'm stuck taking two flights on jets; which used to be fine when you got SCs for each flight, but absolutely zero benefit from that now. Thanks again, Velocity.

A contractor to VA. For a passenger same as VA

I think the two flight routes are different.

SYD-CBR and vv is a VA route and you get VA benefits. It has a VA flight number.

CBR-HBA is just a Link flight that they operate for themselves, not a VA route. Hence you don’t get VA benefits. It has an FC flight number.

Virgin hasn’t ‘stiffed’ anyone.

Not the same for routes other than SYD-CBR.

That’s not even remotely true, not sure where you are getting your information.

Booking enquiry on Virgin website: HBA - CBR on 22 July for example = VA4010.
Virgin branded. Link operated.

Baggage allowance quoted on the VIRGIN website: take the jets HBA-MEL-CBR: 1 * 23kg bag for Choice / 3 x 23kg bags total for platinum.

Take the Virgin coded link flight: 1 * 23kg bag / and NOT APPLICABLE in place of Virgin platinum benefits.

BUT in contrast - and here you are right - you DO get 3 bags on the CBR - SYD Link flights….
So no consistency, and YES Virgin IS stiffing us by offering a direct flight with fewer benefits on the HBA - CBR route.

SYD-CBR is a full wet lease operated by Link for Virgin, and it has no underlying FC (Link Airways) flight number that can be booked.

CBR-HBA is a Virgin codeshare VA4009 on Link Airways FC263. You can book tickets on FC263 or VA4009. Like most codeshares unless extra benefits are extended the rules of the operating carrier apply.

That’s interesting info. BUT to the flying customer, really should be irrelevant.
I book a VA flight, I expect VA benefits.

It’s not like the benefits are free hahahaha
