LifeMiles Share Promo 01-15 October

My maths shows that if you transfer 1,000 points, an extra 1,000 will be transferred for $15, so 1.5c ea.

Ah right... so all you're doing is bouncing points about the generate points at the cheapest rate.

This is different for USDM because the cost of sharing is half that of buying (including when either kind of bonus is on).

Back on the ground now.

Tempting. 100K USDM at ~US$1134 or transferring some LM points. I have 150K sitting there.

I waited a month and a half to buy some LM points. Just realised I need a new bouncing LM friend to make this work, read through the conditions and it doesn't seem to exclude new members this time around (last time you had to be a member before the promo started), just wanted to double check that I haven't read it wrong?

Cheers!

Just to do the sums.

Buy 1000 @ 0.03 ($30)
Transfer 1000 @ 0.015 ($15), total = 2000 (acct #2)
Transfer 2000 @ 0.015 ($30), total = 4000 (acct #1)
Transfer 4000 @ 0.015 ($60), total = 8000 (acct #2)
Transfer 8000 @ 0.015 ($120), total = 16000 (acct #1)
Transfer 32000 @ 0.015 ($480), total = 64000 (acct #2)
Transfer 64000 @ 0.015 ($960), total = 132000 (acct #1)

Account #1 has now transferred (1000+4000+32000) 37000 in total and has a current balance of 132000.
Account #2 has transferred (2000+8000+64000) 74000 in total and has a current balance of 0.

So now from account #1 you transfer 38000 @ 0.015 ($570) giving account #2 a balance of 76000.

So account #1 now has 132000.
And account #2 has 76000.

Total of 208000 miles at a cost of $2265 which means a cost of 0.010889/mile which means I've clearly done something wrong should be closer to 0.015.

Your overlooking the limitation that each account is limited to 50k per year, I know the promo says 75k but the transfer pages says:

You can transfer up to 50,000 miles per calendar year between LifeMiles accounts, for US$ 15.00 + Taxes per 1,000 miles.

You never get better than 1.5c/mile, end of story. your sums do not work. Everytime you share miles you end up with extra miles at 1.5c.

Think you missed a step that transfer 16k to become 32k

Would be worth checking this (not an easy task I know with LM), they may have forgotten to update. I know LM has these stated limitations but there seems to be evidence on FT they are sparingly applied.! In my case though I think I'll go with USDM this month!

Just tried to transfer, but as I've already done 50,000 this calendar year, It won't let me transfer ANY.

Can someone tell me what the tax payable is on purchases/transfers. please? The site is not working for me atm.
Many thanks.

@ TheEmu - I have had no tax payable on any of my LM purchases. But I was charged approx 1USD as a transaction fee (I think).
Anyone else have this experience?

Sounds like a charge made by your credit card company.

I can confirm there is no issue transferring 50,000+50,000 for a total 100,000 to a totally new account opened only seconds earlier.

@bcworld - it was a 28 degree card. I thought they ha no transaction fees for os purchases?

As per the other thread is a per authorisation rather than a charge, please try asking the question in one thread to prevent duplicates, you will find it drops off.

You made two mistakes, you missed out the 16,000-32,000 step and then at the end you say:

So now from account #1 you transfer 38000 @ 0.015 ($570) giving account #2 a balance of 76000.

but in your calculations you have left account 1 still having the 132,000 miles without deducting the 38,000:

So account #1 now has 132000.
And account #2 has 76000.

Which makes your final calculation incorrect as well...

Total of 208000 miles at a cost of $2265 when it should have been 170,000 miles which would equate out to about 1.3 cents a mile... If you fix up the 16,000 to 32,000 step as well it probably comes out correctly at nearly 1.5 cents a mile...

I'll do the USDM offer but might use this offer to get my total from 0 miles up to say 30,000 or so in Avianca as well... Useful to have a mix of miles in different programs i find as i have booked an April 2014 trip using a cheap Avianca redemption to the middle of nowhere in Asia and then a mix of Y and J using QF points back from Europe on EK with low fuel surcharges...

There is no need to do so many calculations. Why make it complicated. Transfer 1000 you get 2000. Cost $15. = $15 per 1000 no matter how many times you extrapolate it

Hi all,

I am completely new to this whole system (only learned about it this morning). Luckily Krisflyer offers this deal to new members, so hoping to utilise it. I'm planning 2 tickets, Australia to Europe business class.

This is what I've concluded:

1000 miles = $15
Maximum transfer is 50,000 miles

50,000 miles = $750

So I buy and transfer these from account A to account B.

Account B now has 100,000 miles.

I do the same from account B to account A.

Account A now has 100,000 miles.

End figure paid is $1500. Round up to $1600 (converting from USD -> AUD).

Is business class from Australia to Europe the same as the USA flyer deal? If so the figure is 130,000 miles needed. Another 30,000 on each account and that buys one ticket.

60,000 points = $900. Round up to $950 (converting from USD -> AUD).

Final figure is $2400 for 2 business class tickets from Australia to Europe.

Am I on the right track, or completely lost?
