Life Time Gold - The [Realistic] Holy Grail

Congrats to the new LTGs, I hope to join your ranks before too long.

What's the current state of play with any remaining unused QC membership?

I also got my letter today and wonder if they need to update the form letter. Particularly the second paragraph which reads:

"This doesn't affect your current Platinum membership status."

Umm actually I'm WP1 at the moment.

Nor was it signed with a person's name, just "The Qantas Frequent Flyer Team".

Agreed, It felt like a standard boiler plate response.

Mine had also included some in indication of my future:

"We will send you a Gold Lifetime card if and when your Platinum status changes"

They must be reading the forum, and noting the desires to find a different program.

No idea re unused QC membership. Not even sure how much I have. Maybe someone here has the answer?

You can apply to get it refunded, but you must have the same card you last paid for it to get the refund, that was a problem for me since it was 1997, its called make it hard to get the money back and utterly ridiculous.

That *is* utterly ridiculous. I've been forced to change my card a few times due to fraud...

It can be done. You need to send in a Stat Dec stating that the original card is gone for whatever reason giving the full card number and this is the replacement card number. I had to do this quite recently for some cancelled flights.

The obvious difficulty is not knowing your 16 digit card number from 1997!

my letter arrived today. Nice welcome, with a caveat.

"Gold Lifetime recognition means you'll enjoy the privileges of Gold membership for like, no matter how often you fly*.

* The program award and benefits may change from time to time.

IMO the biggest threat - it will only work when flying via a sandpit.

It is possible that at some point in the future Gold status does not provide lounge access.

Should I ever reach the dizzy heights of LTG I have just checked and I still have my my QC card. Note to self - do not throw it out!

You need the credit card used to pay for Qantas Club membership.

Achieved LTG last week. A lot of flying in mostly discount Y domestically plus some international J.

What to do, what to do?

Congrats swilk, well done!
Sounds like we have similar flying patterns :)

Open up that AA account.

Not very useful for the discount dom Y flights, with O and Q earning only 25%, and everything else apart from Y, B, H, and K are at 50%. Can't remember if there are any non-earning classes these days. Guess it depends on how many/far exactly the "some international J flights" are.

E class on QF does not earn on most partners (including AA)

As to O and Q classes, hopefully you don't plan on qualifying on AA by EQP...

Happy wandering

Fred

If you earn status, with Gold, the minimum RDM earn becomes 625 (500 min earn plus 25% status bonus loading) & Plat and EXP the minimum earn changes to 1000 per flight (100% status loading).
