So with this being in place as of the 19th can anyone confirm the opening hours of the EY lounge? I think it used to close at 4:30PM. Surely VA have communicated with EY and adjusted the closing time...

As far as I know, the EY SYD lounge opens exactly 3 hours prior to the VA flight's departure. I'll presume this is a bit of a PITA for EY. Recently I was caught out a bit by being at SYD T1 early and having to wait around until the lounge opened. Can't comment on the closing time.

So Mrs G (SG), Little Miss 3yo G (no status) and I (WP) will be travelling through the US early next year and coming back from LAX. We usually got around the "only 1 guest" thing in the *A lounge because we both had status. Does this mean they're now going to send us to different lounges and tell us we can't all be together?

VA - sort your s**t out!!

EDIT: Called Virgin to ask, and they don't even know how this will pan out.

So an update to this is that although I've called 3 times no-one at Virgin can tell me what will happen and every time they promise someone will get in contact no-one has. The first call was weeks ago.

I can't believe that this situation is unusual (family of 3 with differing elite status travelling). It's really, really poor form by VA. If they can't understand their lounge access rules what hope do the rest of us have!

I'm in LAX at the end of this month on a solo trip and am planning on asking there, but assume the "platinum's lounge" will tell me to ask the "gold's lounge"about VA issues and vice versa!

I suspect common sense will overcome any issue. Approach your preferred lounge as a trio and show your credentials - they'll probably just welcome you all.

I flew LAX-BNE as a Plat in J, 1 week ago.

Made it through security by 6pm, to be told the EY lounge opened at 6.30pm!

Figured to try my luck at the Star Alliance business lounge round the corner. They scanned the boarding pass, light turned green, and they let me in. Ate some food there, then went across to the EY lounge when it opened. They didn't scan the boarding pass, but had a checklist of eligible passengers.

The EY lounge seemed quieter. I believe only the VA flights are using this lounge at the time. Interestingly, the a-la-carte dining is not offered for the VA flights, only for the EY flights which are earlier in the day!

I didn't try to access the Star Alliance first class lounge.

I consider the a-la-carte dining one of the main advantages of the EY lounge over the star alliance lounge - so this is a big disappoint.

Were the drinks any better than the *A lounge? And how about the lounge spaces in general.

Did the same thing. There is a virgin employee ticking names off a list.

Confirm no ala carte. Pretty tight fit, with more seats for dining than sitting. With two VA flights departing it was full. It sure why happens when MEl-lax comes on. Food offerings decent, along with bar service. A few hot offerings like beef and rice, and vege curry, and fish.

star alliance lounge has much more room.

LAX-MEL won't be an issue for long ... It'll be use of a DL Skyclub for all by June. :(

I will be WP in LAX June 12. Will be DEVASTATED if don't get into F lounge.. Waaaahhhhh

I'm not sure if *VA* said it themselves, but there was certainly a lot of positive press around the change precisely due to the a-la-carte (from AusBT et al). I can't help but feel a little short-changed on this. Definitely a devaluation from the *A lounge in my books if this remains the case.

On another note, due to the usual problem of a [not actually that] complex US domestic itinerary a VA code can't handle, I'll be flying through LAX as WP on a DL-coded flight on VA metal in 2 weeks. This usually gave me *A access on previous flights, but I can't imagine how the new labyrinthine VA lounge access rules will toss up for me this time.

The *A F lounge is basically a separate room, low ceiling, order from a menu but basically it's the J buffet food served. It's nothing to be excited about. Quiter but no wow.

I'm March, Im going to try access the J *A for their outdoor deck.

Could anyone clarify which lounge I'll be able to access in May this year. Flying VA7 BNE-LAX in "the business", before connecting with Virgin America to LAS again in J. Will have almost 7 hrs at LAX...

VX are scheduled to be moving to T6. To be complete by 5th May ...

It will be interesting to see what the Delta SkyClub will be like in the new T2/T3 complex - i'm hoping they build a flagship including outdoor deck (but food is not likely to match EY).

The overall terminal and connecting flight experience, however, should be good once its its completed.

Yeh I think so too but I'm not optimistic about the new Sky Club despite mention of Delta's "stunning plan" Delta’s stunning plan for Los Angeles - LAX - TravelSkills

Will be hard to top *A outdoor deck at TBIT.

It will be interesting to see further feedback on access in the coming weeks, in particular whether WP and SG pax travelling in J are still allowed into the *A lounge. I'm travelling back through LAX in April and given comments so far, I'd still rather go to the *A lounge than the EY lounge if I have the choice.

Have you got a link so I can read a bit more about this ? I'm going to be there in June. I went to the *A J-lounge last year and thought it was fantastic. Bit nervous about VA and Delta moving out together..
