Latest information about 28 degrees card

I purchased 3 subscriptions to UK tipping services and tried a 4th subscription and no matter what I tried the 28 Degrees card was not accepted. Had to use another card.

A few days later purchased another subscription to a UK tipping service and 28 Degrees accepted.

Looks like they impose some sort of limit whenever they feel like it and then reject transactions.

Yeah I don't know what's going on with 28 Degrees but I had bunch of transactions declined as well, which magically go through when trying the following day.

Latest one was topping up the Suica card via Apple Pay which I don't understand how it can decline a transaction initiated with Face ID. One day it works, the next day it declines the transaction.

I just hope I don't run into issues in Japan next week.

Doesn't exactly fill you with confidence, does it?

I called Latitude this morning and they told me they've now put an approval on the system and to tell the merchant to try again, so I've sent an email off to the accommodation provider in the US and asked them to try to put it through, but I'll be highly p*ssed off if it declines again.

I hardly think that is the case. They have an algorithm that detects fraudulent transactions and sometimes there are false positives which are annoying and inconvenient. I am fine with this as it will more often than not pick up the true positives.

I would entirely expect that, for example, four UK tipping service transactions in a row would be flagged as it has the characteristics of a spending spree by a fraudster.

Pfft! My UK credit card was intercepted in my mailbox… 26 transactions in a day, 70+ transactions in the week. Nada! Nothing! Not even a temporary hold or SMS.

Fully refunded, but given the transactions were all tap-and-pay and it’s a requirement to use the PIN for the first transaction on a new card… pretty disappointing.

I too would prefer the odd false positive!

Was trying to set up Suica too, and kept getting rejected.
Replied to their SMS that transaction was genuine, tried again, and failed again.
Just gave up, and used a Citibank card instead with no issues.

Received a SMS today to advise they are following up my fraudulent activity on my card, may take up to 21 days.

Don't you need to activate credit card before use?

P.S. this has been a requirement for everyone of my credit cards including replacements.

Not always. I received a replacement card last year after a previous card expired, can’t remember which bank/provider it was as I have several credit/debit cards, but I was horrified when it said in the letter that “there’s nothing you need to do, the card is already activated” as if they were doing me a favour!

Yes! And that was the basis of my frustration when I rang up to dispute the transactions. While the bank refunded the stolen money without question, and did it within 24 hours… ultimately we all end up paying for that. Not only were there dozens of transactions that hit the account, there were another 30 that were blocked by the bank. All in the space of a few days. And the bank did nothing!

I received my replacement card yesterday, after the original one was fraudulently used and then blocked.
Replacement card needs to be activated through the app.

I had that with NAB CC. I called them up to remind them what a terrible practice this was, and they seem genuinely surprised that I would complain about it.

NAB doesn’t do that now but that doesn’t make it fool proof.

Is anyone else experiencing delays with their payments reflecting on their balance? I paid my statement in full on Jan 3rd, the transaction is showing in my account, but my balance has not come down.

This is an issue between Visa and JR East. See: The VISA open loop squeeze: VISA’s Apple Pay Suica recharge block one year later

Most non-Japanese Visa cards don't work, it's not an issue with 28degrees. Supposedly Visa cards are working better with the latest iOS update, although I haven't tried myself.

I think the last one I did took five days to finally reflect in the available credit. It was unusually long this time.

Updates don’t occur on Sat/Sun, so the first you’ll see will be tuesday morning.

I’m aware of the issue with Visa hence why the use of the 28 Degrees, which is a Mastercard.

I haven’t had any issues topping up Suica with 28D lately, I assume Latitude fixed up the issues on their end.

Apologies if this has been asked in the many pages of previous comments, but does anyone know what the current min “salary” income requirement is for a new card or limit increase? As well as how many months of that salary income? Thanks.

Interesting data point.

28 Degrees is again rejected at HomePro, Thailand. I used card at Big C earlier in the day without issue. This happens every trip without fail.
