I got this email from Flybuys today and have read it a few times, but still having trouble deciphering the Rube-Goldberg series of steps required to gain bonus Velocity points from FB transfer.

I've only been collecting FB points for 6-7 months and heard/read about +15% Bonus Transfer offers that come about a couple of times a year.

Is this meant to be one of those? I assumed it would be a straight-up bonus added to any Velocity point transfer made during the bonus window.

Step 1 appears to net +5% bonus Velocity points. Have not figured out ratio for step 2 yet. But it appears to be poor, and you have to spend $40 to trigger bonuses.

"It's time to turn flybuys frequent buyers into Velocity frequent flyers. Earn up to 200 bonus Velocity Points for every 2,000 flybuys points transferred, when you shop with selected flybuys partners and transfer your points between 14-31 October 2019*.

Here's how:

(1) Spend $10 or more at one selected flybuys partner and earn 100 bonus Velocity Points for every 2,000 flybuys points you transfer
(2) For every additional selected partner where you spend $10 or more, earn an additional 50 bonus Velocity Points for every 2,000 flybuys points transferred (up to 3 partners for 200 bonus Velocity Points)

You just have to spend $10+ at one of the listed partners and if you transfer your points during the promotional period, you get additional bonus points depending on how many listed partners you shopped at.

No it's not one of those regular 15% bonus offers.

I just got this offer in my inbox, I'm a little confused.
I have 20,000 flybuys points to transfer does it mean that if I transfer them I get the regular 870pt rate and then if I spend with the partners I get the bonus points after?

Seems to be better than the 15% bonus, and fairly easy to trigger the extra 200
2000 FB usually = 870 Velocity points
15% is an extra 131 points per 2000 FB

This promo offers
870 standard points
100 extra with $10 spend at selected partners
150 extra with $10 spend at 2 partners
200 extra with $10 spend at 3 partners

I was waiting for the next 15% but I’ll be taking advantage of this one, even if it means I “have” to shop and Liquorland and First Choice Liquor to do it. (Some sacrifice 😉)

OK.. yeah, reading closer and your helpful post above Molly... I was confusing bonus FB points with Velocity points in my head. So yeah, +200 VP / 2000 FBP is around 23% conversion bonus if the full $30 spending level is triggered. Coles. Coles Online and Booze are the choices to get 3 partners.

Too bad my current 10K FBP over 4 weeks spending won't post until after few days after this transfer promo ends :( Oh well.. always next time :)

You can get 1070 velocity points per 2000 flybuys points transferred over as long as you shop at 3 partners during the promo period. Works out to a 23% bonus, much better than the normal 15% bonus they run.

any time i click the link it just comes up with an opps this page isnt available message?

Thanks Molly for spelling this out clearer. So you suggest I swap over all my flybuy points after this additional shopping?

Got the email too.
They have made it too complicated this time round.
Not going to make an effort for this latest email from them.
Edit:
You will get the extra, 200 IF you do some qualifying purchases, ergo, they want you to spend more with their partners.
Ebay for something, you get 100 extra.
Target or Kmart online or something (not ebay), you get another 100 extra.
Heh, ... 200 extra FB points... for having to do so much, sorry, FB, not this time round.

I agree they want you to spend more (and part of me respects that) - and hey you always need to buy groceries and something to wash it down with - so I don't think it is too bad a deal. The fact that Woolworths now gives 1000 points for 2000 rewards points is great - but canceled out by the excessive money you need to fork out for points flights! Still will be taking this up as a gal has to buy her milk and other liquids!

Agreed. 3 X $10 min spends guarantees the max bonus which isn't hard to do at all. If you have a stash of flybuys points waiting to transfer it's a no brainer.

We shop at Coles anyway and use coles online so there are two right there that will be done.
I'm not sure it is ALL partners though because the offer says ONLY these participating ones

"start by shopping at up to three participating partners: Coles, coles.com.au, First Choice Liquor, First Choice Liquor Market and Liquorland. "

Coles and Liquorland are no problem but it looks like I will have to travel a bit further for 1st choice.

I'm pretty certain I can buy a bottle of wine there before the end of the month

@flybuys, could you please clarify how to use this? I don't think the terms in the email are unambiguous enough.

  1. Do I need to activate the offer before shopping? If so, how?
  2. Do I need to do the shopping before the transfers?
  3. If I shopped at Coles yesterday before seeing this, will it count?
  4. How long does the bonus last for? Just one 2000->870 (+ bonus) transfer? All transfers before end 31/10/2019? All transfers going forward for an unspecified time?

I read it as any transfers during the time of the promotion so long as you shop at the listed partners during the promotion, no activation needed as it can't be done. So you could transfer points now, then shop at the partners and receive the bonus points, but yes this one's quite open to interpretation.

With that said when I activate the 'triple points on your largest shop' promotions they credit you as you go, so if I make a $20 purchase I'll receive the bonus for $20 but later on if I make a $100 purchase I'll receive the bonus for the $80 difference. Might be the same here? Transfer points, shop at one partner and receive bonus, shop at another partner and receive extra bonus... all guesses tho so nothing here is factual or based on experience. Also it's unclear if I need to shop during daytime/sunrise/sunset/nighttime when the sky is clear/cloudy/raining on a full/half/new moon while jumping on one foot, rubbing my belly and tapping my head, will need confirmation.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

If only they ran a promo which doesn't have a limit to the amount of points you can transfer over. I don't know if I should take advantage of this promo or hold off to see if there is something better closer to Christmas.

The only question I have is if the bonus will be applied to a bulk transfer, or only individual 2000 point transfers. Not much clarification in the T&C's I could find for this one.

Sorry for the lack of clarity. In response to your queries
  1. No activation is required
  2. Applies to any shop 14-31 October at the nominated brands, irrespective of when the transfer is done
  3. Yes any shop from 14 October
  4. Applies to any transfers in the period 14-31 October. If more than one transfer during that period – the total transferred will be added up and the rate of 200 Velocity points per 2,000 flybuys points transferred will apply
Hope this helps.
